The average new car price would be too expensive for the average new car buyer with out financing the price.

Why did you make such a fuss over someone saying the truck was expensive to begin with? Why does anyone have to get over it? Why is someone with your expensive collection of toys concerned with Tacoma pricing and if someone else thinks it's expensive?

Nissan Hardbody had black plastic fender flares on them 30 years ago. Because they protect the paint from mud and they look cool.
Trucks have had them for 30+ years. Back when folks used their trucks for truck stuff, they kept the mud from slinging all over the paint and the dude behind you. And they look cool. Just keep 303 on them and don't stress over it. Get out there and enjoy your new truck!

Go back and look. OP essentially posed "why would Toyota not put more premium parts on this high-end vehicle." Because (1) it's a pickup so built as a utility toy/tool and (2) it's not a high-end luxury vehicle so DO expect reliable parts but DON'T expect premium parts. Everybody answered #1, so I answered #2, which apparently to some is an elephant in the room.

Only person on the entire thread fussing is you. Next personal question of yours is why am I here, so I'll bite. Drove Tacomas for nearly 20 years and moved to an RR. Brother still has his 2G. He's not really into forum dwelling, so asked me to keep up on 4G murmur to help him decide on purchase.

So from this thread, if he gets a 4G, I can tell him "PPF your flares. Even my go-to PPF shop said XPEL Stealth PPF on all 4 RR matte flares was a must."

If you have $50,000 in extra cash (plus tax, licensing fees) to buy a vehicle, you're so not "average." The average person doesn't really understand averages.

Truck is dirty as hell. As mentioned, not a 4G but RR, but matte flares with Xpel Stealth PPF, which maintains the matte finish. I took a pic at the crease, and you only see the seam if you look specifically look for it. Luckily, have one of the best PPF shops literally in the world in town.

Sc1 spray works awesome as well for that kind of trim, for motocross or atvs it really brings up plastics.

After the entire "this truck is too expensive for plastic fender flares" argument, here's just a little note, FWIW:

A week or two ago, I drove my new truck into my redwood fence/gate while taking it through the gate into the side yard where I do vehicular maintenance. I kinda trusted the parking assist and whatever other hardware/software that were supposed to keep me from hitting my own fence. Nope, I pushed into it at low speed.

No big deal. The fender flare protected the painted parts of the truck from damage. I had to push a few plastic clips back into the receptacles. The fender flare showed a a bit of scraped surface. I almost left it alone. In the end, I decided to try a few things on the scraped plastic.

Some high grit wet/dry sandpaper removed almost all of the scrapes, and a squirt of silicone spray and a paper towel made the plastic fender flare look new.

I'm not at all unhappy with the plastic fender flares. I think I understand what they are intended to be used as.

So could you buy factory fender flares and replace the black ones with color matched ones?

I was wondering if you could buy some used from someone who updated theirs to a larger set to accommodate larger off road tires. I searched around google, eBay, forum sales, and didn't really see anything but did see one option but it cost like $1700 so not worth it.

Yes. you can have them painted to match your truck color, clear coated, then ceremic or PPF or both on top.
The Limited trims come color matched and painted from factory.
