Hey guys, I want to black out the badges on my white Tacoma. I am inexperienced with plastidip/paint/etc and was wondering the easiest way to do this. Thanks!

Heat gun and floss to get them off with goo gone to take care of excess sticky crap. Lightly sand your badges with very fine sand paper primer and paint them don't plastidip alot of people here will tell you to but from experience over time it peels and if you plan on hitting trails and scratching your truck the branches will scratch the paint causing it to peel. So primer and paint and then throw on some good 3m sticky tape stuff not sure the name and put those things back on. There are write ups on here step by step on how to do it just search plastidip emblems or badges and they will pop up for you

Debadging would probably be the easiest thing to do if you want to clean up the overall look of the truck. Painting can be tricky, especially if you use a gloss paint to achieve the look. Rattle cans are hit and miss in terms of quality. I am sure if you took your time it would turn out decent.

I plasti-dipped mine, I'll redo it one day if I have to. I could see where branches and stuff could scratch it up. Plasti dip peels off for a reason

If your doing all your badges by the time you were done painting the entire can should be gone usually about 4 coats is a good number

I've always heard 4-5 heavy coats or 6-7 light coats.

Just adding my $.02 here...when i plast-dip mine in the spring i will take the approach that leaves them on the truck, as opposed to removing them and using 3M tape to put back on.

I would be concerned of moisture, specifically winter moisture (road salt and whatever that liquid spray is) getting into spaces of the 100 small cut pieces of 3M tape to do damage and create rusting points years down the road.

Watch an instructional video or two for dip instructions. https://www.dipyourcar.com/Videos-and-Guides.html. So easy even a ricer can do it.

No paint, plastic dip etc will last forever. Best thing to do, for a bit extra coin, remove old badges, drive to dealership and buy black ones; yes Toyota sells them. They will be black plastic so nothing to peel off. Cant remember the cost, maybe $30 a piece ? Also they come with adhesive... Peel the strip and slap on.
