Check the pic I posted, I have seen a few cop cars, like you said with flat/satin black hoods.

Mine will be getting plastidipped for the same reason. It is frackin blinding sometimes & I wear good shades anytime the sun is out. I swear it's almost like looking at a welder!!!

I would try to find some of that coating protective plastic film that the factory uses to protect the clear-coat. Put that on the body of the scoop. It's that kinda clear/translucent film that has somewhat of a matte finish on it.

Has anybody tried peelable paint? I read someplace that it lets you put paint designs on the car and/or rims, but peels off much like tape.

This would sound like a great place to try it. ???

you are talking about plasti-dip... just like 10 people have already mentioned and posted pictures of in this thread.

I had one of the sticker vendors on here make a matte black hood scoop vinyl for me. It works great but if I were to do it again I'd probably just tape it off and spray plasti dip on it.

Umm, no. If I'd have meant "PlastiDip" I would have said that. The stuff I heard about lets you "paint" a section of your car/truck, then within 3 months, you can peel the paint off.

    Here's one site:
    http://www.strippablecoating.com/AutoBodyPaintShops.aspx

Nice for people up in snow country to put some extra protection on, or to add some "jazz" for a while, or, as suggested here, make your scoop a flat black.

I just wondered if anybody'd tried it yet

never heard of it but it sounds like it would be similar to plastidip... correct?

Dunno, I just heard about it. Sounds cool, but I'd personally be more than a little hesitant to try it.

    Anybody try it ?

Is that Plastdip on a black hood? Hard to tell. Does it cut the glare?

    Lots...
Plastidip on a MGM, it cuts the glare a lot! For me, it has been one of the cheapest and most effective mods...

Massachusetts school buses are all spec'ed with a matte black hood as well and I was told once by a bus driver neighbor that it's for exactly that reason:

I believe they can also be matte yellow here but I've never seen one that wasn't black.

I've never personally had an issue with my scoop causing glare.
