I’m looking to replace the chrome door handles and side mirror covers on my 2014 Limited. I’d like to do flat black which is available for the door handles but not for the side mirror covers. They’re only available in gloss black. I’m thinking of just painting the side mirrors but don’t know what would be the best way. I’ve seen some people suggest plasti-dip and others say bedliner spray. Or should I just do flat black paint? Thanks for the advice.

Just spray it straight on? Does it need sanding first? Primer?

Is the chrome real or is it plastic?

Plastidip is spray straight on, after cleaning the surface. Look up some stuff on YouTube about it it’s pretty easy just make sure you tape off and cover splatter possible areas.

Even if small splatters happen, it’s easy to wipe off in the drying process.

    Thanks. Pretty sure they’re plastic.

I did the ‘Tacoma’ and ‘V6’ badges on mine with flat black Rustoleum and it’s held up really well. Plasti-dip was my go to for the longest time but it can get beat to hell by the elements if it’s not put on thick enough or you live somewhere that gets harsh winters/shitty weather.

I wondered about durability being on the side mirrors, maybe getting hit by rocks, limbs, etc. But plasti-dip seems like a nice, reversible first try.

“Gloss” is a relative term. I’d judge the mirrors on my 2015 TRD OR to be semi-gloss. Not as textured as the door handles (which aren't really “flat” either), but not what one thinks of as a gloss black finish either.

You’re probably not more than fifty feet from another Tacoma in any parking lot so it’s easy to check out in detail. I’d rather have semi-gloss than gloss BTW — a lot easier to maintain.

They offer a black side mirror cover that isn’t glossy for the mirror without a turn signal light, but the one for mirrors with turn signal lights seems to be a higher gloss.

If I remember correctly, the door handles you have have a chrome plastic cladding and can be removed to reveal a black handle underneath....
