Blacking out tail lights

Is there a legal, cheap way to "smoke" or black out tail lights ?

 

Cheap, yes. VHT Night shades. Check the cheap-free mods I believe.
Legal, not so much depending what state you're in

 

Arizona. What happens if I get rear ended or cop sees the lights

 

Maybe if the brake and turn signals are clearly visible you could paint the rest of it black but I don't know for sure.

 

But don't you want to be seen?

Yeah. Just hoping to find something that lets enough light through but still tints it.

 

Arizona 28-931. Lamp colors
A. Front clearance lamps and those marker lamps and reflectors mounted on the front or on the side near the front of a vehicle shall display or reflect an amber color.
B. Rear clearance lamps and those marker lamps and reflectors mounted on the rear or on the sides near the rear of a vehicle shall display or reflect a red color.
C. All lighting devices and reflectors mounted on the rear of any vehicle shall display or reflect a red color, except that:
1. The stoplight or other signal device may be red, amber or yellow, except on a commercial vehicle, as defined in section 28-2231, the stoplight shall be red and the other signal devices shall be red or amber.
2. The light illuminating the license plate or the light emitted by a backup lamp shall be white.

 

What can happen? You might get blamed if they feel there wasn't sufficient visibility for the car behind you.

Very likely you'll get a ticket if a cop sees them. Could you get away with it, sure. Will it suck if you get a ticket, yup. Might not get an inspection sticker as well.

Roll of the dice. I guess if you really want to do it maybe get the light covers that you can remove but I wouldn't.

 

Spend a little money and get these. Money well spent in my opinion.
