I purchased a set of genuine OEM (allegedly) Toyota blackout overlays from a well rated Ebay vendor for my 2021 Tacoma SR5. The V6, 4x4, and SR5 overlays fit perfectly but the TACOMA door emblem overlay was just slightly too short from left to right - by maybe a millimeter. I am getting a partial refund. Does anyone else have experience with the TACOMA door overlay not fitting properly? Was I sold a knockoff, or is there some deviation on the factory door emblems? Thanks!

I'm guessing that was just a manufacturing defect or variance. Try having him send a replacement?

When I was shopping for those, I noticed most every listing on Ebay claimed to be genuine oem. Guess what, they're not. Ask the seller if their items come in original Toyota packaging and then they'll tell you that they're aftermarket parts, if you even get a response.

The genuine kit cost a bit over $100. If you paid less then half that, I can almost guarantee it isn't an actual OEM Toyota part.

    Enough for now
I thought the overlays I got didn’t fit either. I had to put them on slowly from left to right and the fit was TIGHT. Might be worth a try. Pictures may help too

Oh for sure they are overpriced. But they will fit . They should be around the same price as OP paid as his were allegedly OEM. So if OP paid close to $20-$30 from the Ebay seller, then they werent OEM
My 2nd gen had Amazon overlays which were ok for the money .

I had a set from Amazon that was a tight fit. They wouldn't fit if it tried to put them straight on. I had to start at the front and move back. The back end popped over the edge with a bit of pressure.

Yup. After years of ending up with cheap knockoff accessories for my 2nd gen, I decided to go OEM for my ‘21. I never had problems with quality aftermarket accessories , but the cheap Amazon/Ebay stuff just never fit, and never lasted.

They fit great. Being tight putting it on isn't a bad thing. Means they hug the sides even better and look perfect once they are on. I used the same aftermarket covers on my 2016 4Runner and they stayed on perfectly for 4 years and are likely still going strong for the new owner.

Same issue here. I got mine off of ebay and the Tacoma ones are too small. You have to look closely to notice, but it's driving me nuts. I guess I'll order the oem ones and see how they fit.

I too am looking for overlays for my first Tacoma and was tempted by the Amazon ones for a fraction of the price. Thing I noticed were comments that the "Tacoma" emblem left some chrome visible close to the paint. Do you think this is the result of the tight fit mentioned above?

Mine fit fine once installed and have no chrome visible. I used the “manfox” brand.

I seem to remember buying mine on Amazon and they fit like OEM.

Never understood the overlay nonsense. Take those ugly ass emblems off. No need to waste $ on overlays.

Because blackout is the current fad.

Agreed. Chrome is still gone; clearly that is the goal.

But I think some folks feel they are going to put their kids thru college when Carvana buys their truck, and having the emblems in place will seal the deal. :D
