I am looking into this. I picked up a can of Duplicolor Desert Sand Mica spray. I was thinking about trying to spray the chrome grille to match the truck color then paint the badge as you stated. Now my questions whether or not I can paint the chrome surround myself to save money or is it something I should take somewhere to have done. I do have a couple HVLP spray guns, but I have never really used them.

Honestly, I would try it myself first. It shouldnt be that hard. I would do some sanding and then some primer before painting it though.

What's up with rolls eyes? Are you implying that you wouldn't try it yourself?

I guess my fear with trying to color match is the durability of the paint. I was reading on a couple of other threads that trying to spray can (the good stuff) the grille it won't hold up. I found a couple of sites that offer spray can "kits".

    http://www.automotivetouchup.com

    http://www.paintscratch.com

Includes a can of color matched spray can with a can of spray clear coat. Not sure how durable it will be compared to a normal auto paint with hardener and clear.

Oh okay got yah. Well either way you should try it yourself first.;) Then if its not what you wanted, "then" you can take it to a shop and get it done.:)

Usually, I'm all for it, but it needs some contrast from the cross bars of the grille.

    So my vote is no.

Working on getting them re-applied. Still trying to decide on whether to black out the front one or not. The other option is to paint it to match the color of the truck.

Looks like trying to paint the grille is out of the question. I talked with the folks at trdpart4u.com about ordering a color matched grille, which they do not make, or painting the chrome grille. Here is the response:

" was thinking a white or silver grill would be a better candidate to paint than chrome, you can scuff the paint, chrome is harder to scuff and prep. But, I asked our body shop director, and this is what he said.......... We have tried painting those before, and we haven’t gotten acceptable results. The problem is that the base coat tends to pool around the ridges in the grill. Due to all the different facing surfaces (left, right, top, bottom areas), it is almost impossible to get even coverage, which is accentuated with the clear cost applied. Also, the little triangle areas require extremely precise taping, and even still there is an edge, which is where the paint tends to start separating.

I wish I had better news for you, but unfortunately I just can’t produce a result that I can warranty as to uniformity of coverage and longevity."

That was the official response from the body shop guy at Toyota Dallas (trdparts4u.com). So it looks like the chrome grille will be sticking around for awhile:(

I'd like to know where WW FIREFIGHTER got the grill with TOYOTA on it. I like that a whole lot more than the emblem. I really liked that on the FJC and would like to have it on the Taco.
