I don’t want some cheap ass-valve blowing off when I ain’t home homie! I don’t trust that chit. On second thought, a simple ball-valve would soothe my concerns…

They don't. Alot of boxes built for bluebirds are used by other cavity nestets.

I ran 30 boxes for songbirds 20 years ago using the lifting technique, thick metal wire to hang them off branches and use painter poles with hooks to lift them up/down to inspect/maintain them. Big fan of that method versus a ladder for small songbird and swift boxes. I bet wood duck boxes with ducks may get too heavy for that method, especially at taller heights.

I appluad your effort with the buckets and thinking of a cheaper method of applied conservation. One would think others would have tried buckets by now if they would work and be cheaper? If you try it I would not use glue, maybe try screws to attach whatever so the ducklings can climb out. I would also just screw them into trees and use ladders. Even if the hanging may work they would sway around a lot more than a natural cavity, possibly discouraging use. Also there is a decent chance you could drop them while lifting them down with a pole given their size, weight, wind, and height you would hang them at.

@Cooldood i guess there has been some research on it. Try to get these papers and go from there on your decision.

    https://www.jstor.org/stable/3782351

This one shows significantly higher use in wooden boxes.
