Hey all, wanted to get some thoughts on media blasting and re-powder coating my steel sliders and bumpers.

I have the Victory 4x4 front and rear bumpers and their sliders. Granted I live in the Northeast, but the power coating on these was terrible, and I eventually gave up on patching it.

Below are a few photos of the sliders at this point, and the bumpers look about the same.

Something worth having media blasted and recoated? Or are these too far gone and its just worth buying new ones from another brand?

I really don't want to spend the money on new, but the idea of a refresh is interesting.

I'm guessing I'd be looking at $1,500 to media blast and re-coat the sliders and both bumpers?

^Armor needs yearly touchup of rock scars anyway. I wouldn't bother with media blasting. Just scrape off loose rust flakes and rattlecan with semigloss rust paint.

    This and that
Idk. Victory’s powder coating is not good. Plus thing with powder coating is there is rust beneath where you don’t see. IMG_2723.jpgThis is my victory bed rack. Which I like, but all the edges are chipping as well as some of the weld areas.
Then there is these Cali raised sliders I have. IMG_2725.jpgAnd IMG_2724.jpgmy Rci rear bumper seems to be holding up well, haven’t seen anything on it yet. and the greenlane off-road bumper, and sliders are fine. :D But that’s aluminum.
I know the rust isn’t deep on the sliders but, they are in the bst thread.
I’ve been touching up my bed rack, sanding off rust and hitting it with rustoleum matte black, or the rust remover shit they sell. Same goes for the truck’s frame.

If your truck is almost 10 years old, I’d just repaint those parts with bedliner black. It closely resembles powder coat and I think it is more resistant to chips and fading than enamel paint. Besides, an older truck just doesn’t look right with new looking overly pretty powder coated bumpers and sliders.

$1500 seems high, I don't know the pricing up in the North East, When I have had bumpers or sliders blasted and coated, Its around 250 per bumper and same for a set of sliders. Around $8-900 is what I expected locally with a week turnaround time for Black. The bumpers might be worth blasting and powder coating. Sliders I would recommend getting them blasted to clean prevent rust from coming back, then doing a primer and paint that easy to touch up if you tend to hit them often. Powder coat can hide water under it if its not done correctly. The best way to do it would be to sand blast, the E coat or zinc coat it and then powder coat it. That provides the best seal and prevents rust the best.

Rhino line them. It will hold up better than powder coating. Hit those rust spots though.

Not sure where you're at but I got my front and rear bumpers done at this place in Danbury (https://chem-tron.com/) almost 5 years ago and they're still in good shape. Cost about $500 for sandblasting and PC back then.

I do have to touch up spots that get scraped by rocks offroad but other than that the PC is still perfect in non-scraped places. A good sandblasting and high quality PC can make a huge difference in lifespan.

Prep makes a huge difference with PC, just like it does with any coating. Not only the surface, but also the edges. PC really struggles to adhere to sharp edges. Thats why a lot of bed racks and small flat parts like slider fill plates tend to start rusting at the edges.

If you have the money, Id definitely get them blasted and have new PC put on. The trick is to find a good shop that can work with items this big. Both blasting them and also the oven needed to bake the PC on.

A cheaper option would be to have them blasted, then paint. Cheapest is backyard job with a wire wheel and rattlecans
