Did a gravity bleed at 91k miles just for the heck of it. Never let the master cylinder run dry. No issues but just wondering if I got it all or is some off the brake fluid isolated until I drive around and use the clutch a bit?

If the master cylinder never went dry, and you did NOT press the clutch pedal while it was bleeding.
No, I don’t see how air could have gotten into the system.

FWIW, I only gravity bleed first, then follow up with the old “pump, press, hold, crack bleeder method.
Basically, I only gravity bleed to save my leg from pumping so much.

Anyways, you are fine. If the clutch feels good. Drive it and call it good.

It does feel fine driving it. I was just curious doing a gravity. Bleed and not using the clutch pedal. Do you still get a 100% fluid change? Or is it kind of like when you drain an automatic transmission and you only get about half the fluid out.

You get about all of it out. Probably 90% or more.

Between a gravity bleed and 4-6 foot/pedal bleeds with a helper, you're getting about all of it that you can expect. It's not a big hydraulic system, maybe 1/10th the size of the brake system

Alright then, I'm probably done with it. I should have drained into a clean container. To see what it looked like. I didn't. I drained it into the dirty container that I had used for the brakes.

    At least you drained it.
Most never do. They wait until a problem occurs and then it gets drained.

I’m not even afraid to admit it.
I’ve done clutches and never even messed with the fluid. Bled it and topped it off.

    Those were the days…….
Tearing transmission out at night and back in by morning. Turning the flywheel was a scrub down with a scotch-brite pad.

On my 4 cyl 5 spd, I can pedal bleed it manually by myself. Attach a hose onto the bleeder, other end of hose in a plastic bottle with some fluid in it to cover the bottom of the hose, as a just in case. Open bleeder. Push the pedal down- mine stays on the floor at this point. Close bleeder. lift pedal. Open bleeder, push pedal..... repeat ~5 times and it's good. I have a Mityvac hand vacuum pump that works, but to just get the slave cylinder cleaned out it doesn't take much.

I wonder if that would work with the 6 speed. I have a Mityvac too, great for brakes. I take the bleeders out and wrap plumbers tape around the threads so air won't get sucked past the threads.

I did a gravity bleed on my son's 2008. Worked much better than pumping imo. No air in the line and I was able to do it by myself. I have one of those bottles with the line attached so no air could get in. Clean fluid also looks so much better in the master cylinder!

Like I said if you don't introduce any air into the system upstream, you can do a gravity bleed, just like brakes.
I like this forum better than some of the Facebook Tacoma user groups. You ask a legitimate question and you get stupid responses such as, "junk it, part it out, totalled, etc."
