Hey everyone, thank you for reading!

I have a 16' Limited with JBL and in the winter time i blew the front door speaker on the passenger side and just this morning blew out the drivers side front door speaker. I'm having a really hard time finding threads where folks aren't ripping out the entire JBL system and are just upgrading the speakers.

I'd like to upgrade the dash tweeters, both of the front door speakers and both of the rear door speakers while retaining the factory HU and factory subwoofer, is this possible? Do i need adapters for the speakers to fit? How about the wiring connections?

    Thank you again

-You will need speaker ring adapters
-You will need wire harnesses unless you’re cool cutting/splicing

-you will need 2ohm speakers. That’s the main thing to look for. If you get 4ohm, you’ll lose half your volume.

Check out jbl stadium or infinity kappa. They are 2 ohms and will fit the bill. You will probably need to use the crossover for the tweeter, but the woofer can use the crossover thats built into the factory amp.

Thank you for everyones input, it looks like i'll be ripping out everything despite it not being in my budget, no matter which configuration i came up with the local audio installer, ripping out everything and changing the HU makes the most sense, i just hate the thought of trading this truck in after doing so much audio wise

If it's a good quality installer, nothing should be permanent and everything should go right back in when you sell/trade the truck. If someone is doing work that can't be un-done, I don't want them messing with my truck.

There are options out there, it's just not easy peasey Crutchfeezy because their stuff that fits the door in this situation is all 2 way speakers and some are super wow expensive. I think you are looking at three options pretty much:

    1. Install factory replacements (repair the sound system with factory parts).
    2. Install aftermarket replacement drivers that will have unknown performance when hooked to the JBL system.
    3. Rip out the JBL system and spend real money on a stereo.

For the money I would try option 2. The only variable here is that I don't know what the crossover settings on the JBL system are. Are they just filtered at the speaker, or is it done in the JBL amplifier? If you can find out what range the tweeter is using, you can try to find a woofer that integrates well. The one I linked above looks like a good option, but you will need mounting adaptors and some understanding of what the factory tweeter's frequency range is. If the tweeter covers below 5000Hz, and the amplifier is doing the crossover, you can throw them in and be done for $150. If you hate it, it was a $150 experiment.

    Reggae actually :D

You're right, i suppose i could keep some of the components, i was planning on selling the factory HU and subwoofer on ebay to offset the cost of the full ripout.

I've got 65k miles on the truck now, the only way i'd trade is if Toyota released a Tundra that does 20+ mpg or if they release a new Tacoma

It seems this is the best option, those 2 ohm speakers would work but i have no idea how they will sound with that factory amp.

I think i'll be going with a newer Pioneer HU, alpine speakers for the doors, alpine amplifier and a JL microsub, probably an 8w3v3 if their little box fits behind the seat.

I know it’s been a while, but I’m in the same boat with my ‘16 now. Love the JBL, but blew my driver door speakers. I want to replace the speakers with something that sounds as good or better than won’t blow as quickly— perhaps something JBL that’s compatible but a bit higher quality?

OP what’d you end up doing here?
