I was parked on roadside with vehicle in Drive. Put signal on to enter lane as vehicle approached and my blind spot did not flash in drivers mirror. Is this normal ?

You have to be moving for it to be operational. At speeds. Won't engage while you are stationary such as at lights.

Yes, depending on proximity to the sensors weather etc. mine alerts to the garage door tracks when backing out. I haven’t experienced parallel parking yet. I have seen on the highway where it doesn’t alert to a tractor trailer, but alerts to a motorcycle & vice versa

Dang, the mirror itself is a blind spot. It covers up cross traffic arriving to the intersection at the same time you are almost perfectly.
