okay, and trucks. especially with my shell, creates more of a blind spot. they should be mandatory on all cars.

I have them and will always have them.

I can't stand towing without them and I have issues with my neck where it likes to occasionally lock when turning it so blind spot checks can get a little painful.

i've got a cheap, circular one from wallyworld on my driver's side mirror. love it! saved me more than a few times!

EDIT: haha, guess i posted in this thread back in april 2010. used almost the exact same wording too... weird. :)

I started using convex mirrors ('blind spot mirrors') decades ago while driving tractor/trailer rigs in Europe (to avoid the tiny cars, buildings in tight turns on narrow streets, etc) and have continued using them off and on with many vehicles since. I don't yet have any on my new Tacoma, but they're on the shopping list.

Hogwash. No matter how your regular mirrors are set, they will not cover smaller vehicles (compact cars, motorcycles, etc) almost directly beside you and the traffic behind you as well. If you think otherwise, I really pity those stuck in traffic beside you.

Yes, really. If you turn the side mirrors out far enough to see beside you, there will be gaps between what your interior rearview mirror shows and what the side mirrors show. You'll now have to turn your head to see those gaps (blindspots). If you set the three mirrors to show a nearly continious view, you will still have blindspots closer beside you. Convex mirrors, similar to wide-angle lenses for cameras, show a much wider view, virtually eliminating blindspots.

Hey, blame it on Sean. He bumped the thread with his image and I couldn't resist responding after reading the various comments. Besides, as a newbie, this is a new thread to me.

I first started using a pair of "cheater" mirrors driving the Kennedy back and forth to work while in Chicago. I had a little Bimmer back then, before kids, and I used them to locate the corners of my car and see blind spots. Very helpful when changing lanes in tight traffic. I like them because, versus side mirrors or rear view mirrors, they only require slight eye movement versus neck movement.
I have been using them on all my vehicles since then.
Now with kids, I can aim them back, to check on them as well.

I've got them and they really help when towing my car trailer (especially since I've got a Leer shell on the truck as well.) Still turn my head when making a lane change, but they come in handy just checking blind spots when driving.

You know, not all vehicles have rear-view mirrors, or at least not useful ones. We had adjusting mirrors properly as a topic in a defensive driving class I had go take at work. I drive a fire engine, there is fancy stuff like water and a pump in the way of me using a rear view mirror. Some people with trucks may enjoy hauling things that obscure the rear view mirror.

I personally like blind spot mirrors for backing in to tight spaces, or turning around in bad spots. I also think that, while that way of aiming mirrors reduces blind spots, it does not eliminate them (at least not on all vehicles).

I drive in a lot of Atlanta traffic and the spot mirrors have saved me side swipping other cars countless times when changing lanes. I have them on all 4 of my Toyota vehicles. (1992 Camry, 2002 Camry, 1993 4Runner and 2011 TRD off road).

I always double check by looking over my shoulder, even when it hurts because my neck is acting up.

I'm thinking of getting "blind spot" mirrors for my Tacoma, they are so useful.

No because I turn my head to look when changing lanes. What I do with my mirrors is find an open parking lot with a light pole and set my in-cab rear view where I want it then drive until I can't see the pole in the in-cab review then set my out side mirrors until I can see it on the inside edge of the exterior mirrors so that all of the mirrors are overlapping almost and you can see all around you with them.

Intuitively, these should be mounted below your regular mirror, to better see low cars beside you.
