Question for all you long-term Taco owners out there. Any one aware of or seen custom blind spot mirrors that replace the standard mirror [not a stick on, added thingy]?

I had a pair of these for my Audi:

They were great, but I think they weren't "legal" in the states....

Are you talking the blind spot monitoring ones? With the little light that comes on when people sit in your blind spot?

If so, I haven't seen anyone fit them on to a Tacoma yet, I guess you get to be the first :p

He's probably talking about the ones that are built into the mirror and not the stick ons. I would like to know if someone makes them as well...

Pro EFX mirrors have blind spot convex corners and are awesome if you ever tow.

Sorry about missing the link in the first post. The link shows the mirrors I was talking about. They were very nice when I had the Audi. Maybe it's just a UK thing...

Also, not to be that guy, but if you adjust your factory mirrors so you can only just barely see the edge of your vehicle there will be no blind spot. I started keeping my mirrors like that and it took some getting used to but now its much better.

Yep sit in the driver's seat with your head resting on the driver's side window. Adjust the mirror until you just barely see the side of your truck. Now lean toward the passenger side until your head is in the middle of the truck. Adjust the passenger side mirror the same. Now when the car behind you starts to leave your rear view mirror, they will show up in your side mirror. No more blind spot.

What I do is stick a road cone about a foot to the left or right of the rear wheel (depending on which side I'm adjusting) then I adjust so I can see the top if the cone while my head is in my normal driving position. Bam no blind spot. Also many people don't think of this but you can lean you head to the right while looking at the left mirror while in a left merdge situation to allow yourself a wider angle view. The way I have them I can't see the sides of my truck the view is just a few inches past maybe I stick the cone more than foot out anyway I think you get my gist.

Simpler way adjust to where you can just see your sides and then go just a hair further out you don't need to see the sides of your vechile you need to see beside your vechile.

Also do as a good trucker dose and develope a scan system. Also before changing lanes look in your mirriors for more than just a quick glance to be sure that you did not miss something like that Hells Angel biker. Bug eyes are useful but provide a very distorted view the smaller type which the OP is referring to. On semis they are far more useful of course then they are about the same size a a standard vechiles side mirrors.

This is how I have mine set. It took some time to get use to, now I can't drive it any other way. No more blind spots.

I also use this way and now I refuse to drive any vehicle without adjusting mirrors this way. I still can't convince my family to use my method. They keep thinking they need to see the side of their vehicle in side mirrors.

Yep saves you from squashing a biker or Smart car. I remember my dad told me that years ago along with many other things how to drive safely.

I've been driving for 20 years now zero accidents that where my fault and only one where a guy in an F250 work truck tapped me in the rear as a light changed from red to green he was not paying attention missed that the light had just changed to green.

Now I've been passenger in some much nastier accidents. Did you know that a Reese's peanut butter cup will fly out of your mouth hit the windshield bounce and fly to the back of a car if you get rear ended? Lol I do I was bummed out my mom rarely let me eat candy as a kid.

I have these "blind spot" mirrors on my GTI. They're similar to those OP points to in post #6. The driver's side isn't flat like US cars, it's more like the passenger side of US cars. But, they are actually aspheric, not simply convex. The outer zone beyond the vertical dotted line gets increasingly wide angle. Both the driver and passenger side mirrors have this configuration. They take some time to get used to, but I really like them. Would put them on my Tacoma if I could find some. Seems to be a European thing.
