I purchased a '22 SR5 Access Cab and we love it! However, my previous Tacoma had a Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) which this new one doesn't. I like blind spot mirrors and turning my head quickly to look, but my wife would like the additional safety. Rydeen (BSS2LPBC) and Pioneer (SDA-BS100) sell an aftermarket, stand-alone BSM that attaches to the rear license plate. It is easily installed as it does not require removing the bumper and drilling mounting holes. Has anyone installed this BSM? If so, do you like it?
The dealer said it could screw up the truck computer, but local installers say different...one said that Carmax has used these license plate models for customers. I have yet to find one installed on Tacomas.

Not uncommon for dealers and "local" installers to have varying opinions. I can't say if it would cause any issues or not but of course most installers will probably tell you yes just to make the sell, even if they're unsure.

If BSM was a big deal you should have spec'd another one out with it. It seems people who buy higher end models never complain about lack of features but its pretty common for those that buy base models to want the higher end features... buy once cry once but seems a lot of folks here like to cry a lot instead.

The sensor itself seems it would work fine, probably won't be as good as the factory BSM as that has four sensors with more proper placement but likely good enough. Also the harness looks like it requires spicing into the factory wiring which translates to you potentially losing your warranty on the trucks electrical regardless of professional install or not, if you don't care about that then I'd say you could probably get it to work just fine.

You are Correct...I bought the truck for me and I don't trust BSM's very much. She will get used to it. I really appreciate your reply. it was well written and thought out.
    Thankyou

When I took a motorcycle riders course the guys there told us:
Mirrors say No but they never say Go

No truer words spoken... that course saved my azz on several occasions and while out of the jurisdiction
of this site - I'd highly suggest that anyone considering riding a motorcycle take that course.

These BSM's are cool, but they too can fail. I find the 'view' with a slight turn of my noggin gives me all the info I need,
and after turning my noggin for the better part of 50 years I suspect I can still do it for the few that I got left.

Hood Struts, My version Fogs always ON, Map & Overhead Light Mod,
BSM is only "2" sensors on the top ends of the rear bumper, not 4. The parking sensors are 4.
