I just bought a 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport. At the time I was not interested in these two features but now I am. I would like to add these but prefer to use Toyotas hardware instead of a aftermarket brand. Has anyone done this before?

I'm in the same boat, with a 2021 TRD Off-Road double cab. Contacted the dealer a few weeks ago to see if I could get BSM and RCTA installed. Haven't heard a peep back. Anybody know how much it costs to install these -- or, are there aftermarket options for a self-install?

I’m guessing it would be cheaper to trade in for a new truck than try to retrofit it. The sensors alone are pricy plus all the other stuff you’d need to make it work

The firmware under the dash is so secretive and complex that it's an act of frustration to change up any option after it's left the factory.

If it's even remotely related to safety, forget it. Shakerhood is right. Find an anti-gadget Luddite to trade trucks with.

Dealer pricing would be astronomical, especially the labor part. Heck even the BSM mirrors wouldn't be cheap.

There are aftermarket systems but I personally would stay away from them. You'll never be happy.

Best suggestion is to find a damaged/wrecked Tacoma that has these features and pull all the parts needed from that truck. Although you would first want to confirm your trucks main wiring harness is equipped with existing connectors.

I wouldn’t do it. I can imagine the cost would be totally ridiculous. I would rather deal with the inconvenience of turning my head when I change lanes. This is why it’s imperative to make these decisions when buying. Once you have purchased the truck, you are gonna find yourself knee-deep in shit creek trying to make mods like that.

I just ordered a '21 TRD Offroad and I made sure to include these features. My theory is ALWAYS order from the factory what you can't easily and affordably do yourself aftermarket.

Edit: unless you know you'll never use it

For what it’s worth…my BSM fucks up almost weekly since I bought the truck. Not sure my rear cross traffic actually works, never had to utilize it yet. Dealer can’t seem to find the issue. I just turned it off.

Fortunately I've haven't experienced any issues like that with mine but sure would be disappointed if I did and the dealer couldn't correct it.

Also for what it's worth, my cross traffic is 90% more annoyance than useful- it usually alerts on street traffic beyond the parking lot I'm in. Most of the time I don't notice it as I can see what's coming before it does.

Maybe once it alerted to a pedestrian that darted out between cars, so it's cool for that.
