I was driving on the highway this morning and this message came up on my dashboard "Blind Spot Monitor Not Available" with a warning triangle. I have not touch my side mirrors since last year 2019 and I have never touch my rear bumper caps at all. I had even tried disconnecting my battery and leaving it for 30 minutes before reconnecting it. The message and the warning triangle is still there and my blind spot monitor is not working. Anybody know a fix for this?

Any mud near the sensors in the back?

Mine did this before but then it just started working again after I washed the truck.

I will give the truck a wash today and see if that fix it.

Generally most of the issues are associated with the left connection from the truck to the sensor..... Mine had a f'd up connector so they replaced that section of harness.....But they did not SEAL the joint as they should have done. There is no tape on mine and it's very hard to get to now.

I've pretty much solved it by drowning it every once and a while by spraying the connection with Corrosion Free. It's a water displacing rust product.

    Works for me.

I had that problem once when I was parked into a 60mph wind with very heavy rain, once everything dried out the next day it was fine

It's still under warranty but I have installed after market side mirror turn signal so I have a feeling the dealer will said I messed with the wiring and not want to cover it. Worst case scenario if I can't find a fix through Tacoma World then I will go to the dealership. I also installed the new oem led headlights with an aftermarket harness. I have a feeling they will just make up all kind of excuses not to cover it because I have a few after market harness on the truck.

Does anyone know where to find a diagram or something of the BSM wiring?

I just bought a 2017 off-road and the BSM doesn't work. I thought it was because the bumper cover was full of dirt, but I took them off (they were full of dried mud) and cleaned them out and checked the connection there and the BSM was connected fine, but it still doesn't work. The truck was super muddy/dirt filled when I finally got it home and started really looking over it and tinkering with things, so I'm guessing the previous owner put it through the ringer (and didn't do the maintenance to keep it clean). I'm wondering if the BSM wiring is disconnected elsewhere along the line, but have been unsuccessful finding any sort of diagram or "map" of wire tracing for it.

I searched through the Toyota Parts diagrams https://parts.toyota.com/Toyota_2017_Tacoma-DOUBLE-CAB-SR-5--GLX-35L-V6-4x4-MT.html with no luck and have searched the threads here to try and find something with no luck. Just hoping someone else might know so I don't just have to buy a new BSM sensor.

I had this issue from off the lot. Took them 8 months to start getting the same issues on other trucks...... Mine was like the first on a dealers lot when 16's came out.

it turned out to be the wiring harness in the left rear. They replaced it and it has worked on and off ever since. I think my on-off issue with it is that they DID NOT wrap the new connection to the original harness. I now have issues with intermitantly when wet.

I spray (liberly) the connection with corrosion free when I'm under it. (very hard to see this connection.....near the radar sensor)

    Has been working ever since.

If I had the time, I remove the bunper tip and get to the connection and seal properly.

Good luck man. Search for them ... there lots of posts on this....(use google to search)

That's fun.... frustrating... I'll take the covers off again and clean and spray them. I've been reading through the other posts on this site about it. ugh.

My guess is that the mud caused a malfunction that threw an error code that needs to be cleared. Problem is, as far as I know, BSM codes can only be read and cleared using Techstream.

I had a similar issue that was caused from heavy snow and ice buildup under the bumper. I pulled the bumper caps off and cleaned the sensors and connectors, but the BSM system still wouldn't work. I used a code reader to check for codes and it showed nothing. Then I read somewhere on here that you need Techstream to see and clear BSM codes. I eventually purchased a Tactrix cable and set up an old laptop with one of the bootleg versions of Techstream you can find around here or elsewhere around the web and found an error code, which I then cleared. That didn't immediately fix the issue, but after driving the truck for about 10 minutes with the BSM system active, the error message on the dash finally disappeared and everything was back to working normally again. Since the system seems to be rather touchy, nowadays I keep BSM disabled unless I have a good reason to use it.

I have no idea if Techstream will fix your issue but I'd definitely pursue that first before throwing money at sensors and/or a new wiring harness.

My 2017 threw the same error for a bit. Once I washed out the rear bumper area at a car wash it took about 3 days of driving around before the sensor started working again.

Mine quit working years ago. I didn't use it since I'm not too lazy to turn my head while turning, reversing and changing lanes.

Were there any strong storms that produced a lot of rain in your area or did you drive through any strong storms that produced a lot of rain. Same thing happened to me We had strong storms overnight and when I got up the next day and started my truck I got this message. I tried resetting BSM that did not work. I drove around for about 30 minutes and it started working again. This happen to me twice.

There was not any strong storms the week leading up to the issue. The funny thing is I drove around running errands and it automatically started working again. I went a head and got a good car wash just in case. I haven't had any problems yet since it started working again.
