It's absurd they are trying to blame this on a lift. I'm on 6.5" with 35's and it works fine (when it's working). The sensor that had to get replaced had problems pre-lift, they "recalibrated" it. The next time, same problem, same sensor, but now with the lift. They replaced it no questions asked. I have beef with this dealer now over other things...but on the BSM they didn't jerk me around.

A week to replace a BSM sensor?? Find a new dealer. Mine took about 1:30 in and out, and the bill *would have* been $85 had I not been under warranty. They tried to bill me first before realizing I was under warranty...on a 2017...in 2017. Okay then Toyota. Both times it fucked up, it was driving in or around heavy rain. If you look back there, it's not the "robust" design to say the least. I like BSM so I'll be keeping it, just worried about when these sensors start choking after warranty expires.

This is my 5th Tacoma, 6th Yota truck, and I'll just say it - Toyota really has become shiesty as fuck, and it feels like quality control came up shy on the 3rd gens (also FRS and who knows what others). I know they have a lot more tech and gadgets crammed in this gen and tighter safety/fuel/regulatory standards to meet, but that's not much of an excuse. I had a rear window mechanism fall apart in the door...seriously? I love my truck and have no plans to ditch it (yet), but damn, when you take comprehensive build quality and manufacturer support out of the equation, Raptors look better everyday. I'll take an EcoBoost V6 over this joke of a motor any day, especially when the dumber-than-shit-designed high pressure fuel pump sounds like I have an army of crickets under the hood and Toyota's response is "deal with it."

At least I didn't have the rear diff repo headache. If they would have told me they were keeping my truck for 6 weeks, y'all would have heard about it on the news.

The only problem I’ve had is when it gets dirty.

This is my 5th Toyota and 2nd Tacoma. I've had more problems out of this 2017 than all of the other ones combined. like i said, they had my truck for close to 6 weeks replacing the rear dif. Ive taken back 2 other times because it still whines between 55-50 On deceleration and they kept it for 3 days and 6 days. They tell me its normal... Now this BSM system issue has just about done me in with Toyota. Hell I don't even mention the weird shifts in the transmission anymore because I'm worried they will keep it. I have a 07 FJ cruiser that has 205,000 miles on it and the only thing I've ever had to do was oil changes, tires, and battery.

I am going to start shopping around for a new/newish F-150 in January. Ive used the same dealership (Wolfchase Toyota) for years and they are the best in the Memphis area, but i'm just done with it at this point. I drive a lot of miles daily and my time is limited. I don't have the time or patience to constantly go back and forth to the damn dealership over a brand new truck.

So, I just had this issue on my 2017 TRDOR. I've had the pickup for just over 3 months, just under 6k miles. We had our first real snowstorm and I had to run about an hour out to pickup a family member from the airport. Pickup was clean when I backed it out of the garage but totally caked with ice and freezing muck within about 30 minutes on the nasty roads.

About 45 minutes into the trip I got the "Blind Spot Monitor Not Available" message, no big deal, just because of the crud i figured. Turned the BSM off to get rid of the fault indication and continued. Dropped off pax and went to car wash later that night. Spent $30 and crawled all over and under the truck trying to get the corrosive nastiness off. I figured I'd be in good shape then. Still no BSM. Truck sat in heated garage all night and dried completely, still no BSM the next morning and I launch on a trip home for Christmas, 700mi one way. I tried the BSM intermittently on this trip. Weather was good, truck was completely dry but still got the fault every time I turned on BSM.

About 5 hours into the trip I decided to just leave the BSM on for a while on the outside chance that it just needed some time to "recalibrate". Lo and behold about an hour later I was passing a car and looked in my pax rearview mirror and the BSM was back, no error codes since. Not sure if I got lucky, have an intermittent problem, or if this is an actual thing but hopefully sharing this might help someone else.

Same issue here. My rear bumper was packed with snow and ice so I decided to leave it in the heated garage for several hours. I'm still getting the warning. Our local dealer is absolutely booked this time of year so it might be a couple of weeks before I get it looked at. I'm hoping they don't have to take those bumper end caps off to repair because the plastic tabs snap off since they're held on with one-way spring clips.

As a follow up the BSM started working again. Nothings changed in terms of temperature, still below 10 degrees. I'm sure it had something to do with cold and ice but after a thorough cleaning and dry out why'd it take so long to reset?

Good question. My post is right above yours and I had the same experience. Hopefully some others will find theirs mysteriously working again.

This problem just showed up for me as well (Canada, 64,000kms). The same day I had an ECU and transmission update performed. There's been some pretty wet weather lately though. I took it back in to the Dealer and their best diagnosis is one of the BSM's is malfunctioning and to wait until the weather is consistently dryer. So frustrating.

My 16 trd sport just had the bsm go at 55k km. There was water ingress through the license plate light. Shorted out the bulb and somehow caused the bsm system to fail (shared electrical harness). Needed harness replacement, rear sensor replacement and subsequently a driver side mirror since the light burnt out in the fracas. Since then it started giving a 1 second bsm error every 2-3 min of driving. It spaces out the warmer the truck gets.
Doesnt seem like a very robust system.

had my 2016 TRD OFF ROAD Tacoma to the dealers . The BSM Stop working and come to find out there is a TSB-0213-17 License Plate Lamp Moisture and/or Blind Spot Monitor Abnormal Operation.. They replaced the License Plate Wire Harness and said it was a upgrade and should not be a problem So Far So Good, all seems to be working

Without reading all the pages, the previous owner of the 2016 I bought didn’t tell me that he had unplugged the BSM, the reason he unplugged it? I am assuming because it didn’t work because when I plugged it back in it didn’t work.

That was last March, fast-forward to today with it still unplugged driving down the highway in the rain the right mirror warning started flickering light and then it came on solid and then it went off for a while and then it flickered a little bit.

I wonder if rain and crap got into that plug and it’s just kind of messing with it. Tomorrow or on the next nice day, I will hit it with some brake clean and then some dialectic grease, plug it back in and just don’t turn the system on.
