So I recently purchased my ‘17 Tacoma off road from a guy stationed at another base near me and I’m having trouble with the blind spot monitor. When I press the button, there’s a long beeping noise and the dash just says “blind spot monitor not available.” I’ve looked everywhere on the net about what it could be and couldn’t find anything. I read the manual and looked up the error message and according to the manual, the only possible problem would be if the sensors in the rear were covered in snow, ice or mud. I talked to the previous owner and he didn’t have any problems with it before. It’s clear as day outside and I recently took it to spray it down but I still get that message. Just curious if anyone else has had this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mine has shown the same message a few times after driving on a beach or other mucky surface. First time I had to wash it out thoroughly, but the warning message stayed on until I drove a few miles. Second time, similar but a short on-pavement drive in the rain was enough to clear it. Annoying, but not uncommon. I’d recommend giving it a direct spray with a hose all behind the bumper, and see if that takes care of it. Faster/easier than a dealer visit.

I’ve tried that already but I guess I could give it another shot before I take it to someone. Thanks though

I have problems with mine as well, and not even a month old ( developed at about 600 miles)

But it seems to have progressed. Every time I shift into reverse, I get a continuous tone and a red line around the left (driver side) rear corner on the center screen depiction, even though nothing is around. I washed out everything in the area at a self serve like one of the other threads suggested, and I have an appointment at the dealer on monday. Sound like another calibration issue or a hardware problem?

Update: BMS starting working again after turning it on and driving for a while, canceling the warning every 3 seconds for several miles. So I guess it recalibrated itself.
