Thanks again. I think I got it now. BE1 will have a wiring harness attach regardless of options so need to disconnect BE1 to verify positions 1, 2 & 3 have pins on the truck side. Bumper harness needs to be replaced to one designed for BSMS or replaced with a different harness to add BSMS with parking sonar.

Guessing it is same at the side mirrors depending on defrost mirrors or BSMS or both or none.

BSMS sensors are behind the plastic corners of the bumper.
You could always drill the locations for the parking sensors.
Most versions without any features just have BE1 with the 3 pins and no cover.
The main issue would be a replacement harness from the cab to engine room to frame to rear bumper area with all the missing terminals available And paying someone (dealer) to TechStream it in and calibrate. And, of course, the mirrors with the cross traffic indicators, the BSMS computer, activation switch, etc.

You convinced me not to try this. Sounds like the Techstream will be the roadblock Plus no great desire to take my dash apart to add the BSMS controller. Sales manager says they can add it for $1500 which sounds like a bargain given how much a replacement sensor cost. I’ll call the service manager to confirm sales manger was not blowing smoke and confirm if that price is OEM parts or a 3rd party aftermarket kit.

The BSM sensors are located about 6- 8" in from the conners of the bumpers and are the size of a deck of cards.

I don't usually bitch, but I think I would have been a burr in their saddle until my improper diagnostics fee was returned. I hear biz bitch all the time about CC fees, and this is why I almost always use them, us consumers have very little recourse, but the big CC companies will flat out tell them to go shit, slip, n fall and withhold funds.
Good news is- you got it fixed.

Right, I think what pissed me off was it took them 5 hours to do an oil change and diagnostic, I doubt he even did anything besides say yep needs replaced, I mean clearly if I was able to just drive it around after cleaning it, it didnt need replaced, so a) they are clearly incompetent b) they are trying to milk you for every cent on a $2100 sensor that just needed cleaned.

Any idea what years this applies to? My dealer is giving me a headache. The dr side isn't working. He wants to replace the pass side and that doesn't make sense to me. The dr side mirror light works. It'll flash in reverse when a car comes from the pass side. Just not anything from the dr side. This diagram tells me the the mirror lights are controlled by the sensors. So I think the dr side sensor should be the culprit.

Stealership with their tricks to add more money for repairs. Another Stealership might give a different "reason".

    Oh no doubt.
Anyone know what years the diagram is for?
I'm just trying to understand how the system works so I can figure out their BS.

A couple of weeks ago I hit some deep water on the freeway and got the message “BSM not available”. When the rain stopped I crawled under the rear bumper and sprayed contact cleaner on all the connectors. Posts on TW said to drive around with BSM on and the error message displayed and my problem cleared itself up. Aparently BSM won’t reset itself with the button off. I believe I drove about 10 miles with the error message after using contact cleaner and letting the BSM dry out. Worth a try if you have the “BSM not available” error message.

UPDATE: Dealer had another look. The problem was on the dr side. But, it wasn't the sensor. It was caked in mud. I can only assume from the previous owner. The removed the bumper cap, cleaned it up, and recalibrated. It's working fine now. No charge from the dealer and they apologized for not taking a close look the last time.

So, since I bought a used sensor on ebay, I have one. The ebay seller refunded me without wanting the sensor back. If someone needs it, pay shipping and I'll send it to you.
