    - one reason why I dislike some of the "tech" items going into vehicles today. They are prone to failure and it costs a bunch to fix.

If getting the vehicle dirty by off road use may cause a failure, then the manufactor needs a better design or not make it an option in 4x4 vehicles that are used off road.

Has anyone had this happen during speeds over 90? Mine said "not available" then started working again later.

Mine quit working as well, took it to Toyota and they needed to recalibrate it for just less than 150 bucks but at that time the truck was a lot newer and couldn't live with something not working.Fast forward now to about 2 years later and mine has stopped working again. Here in Pennsylvania we just had a bunch of snow and ice and when leaving work was when mine started not working. I cleaned them real good and it still says not working and have been driving around like this for almost a week so not sure if it will reset.some people can just turn theirs off and be okay with it but this shit drives me batshit crazy. Guess that's what we get for getting all the bells and whistles.

Mine quit working but its been covered in snow and ice. Once it melts off, it’ll be fine again. Sensors dont work when they are blocked.

Drove an hour through a good snow storm last weekend, ice in my wheel wells we're only like an inch from the tire. Bsm decided to stop working at some point during the drive, not a big deal since everyone was single file with visibility being so low. That was Sunday, today is Thursday and bsm wasn't working all week. Finally gave my truck a good wash and sprayed a ton of water under ( try and get the salt off too). Turned the truck on and it still said it wasn't available. Read the first few posts at the car wash, drove for maybe 10 min and it works again

Did you drive with BSM on for it to get it working again? After huge snow storm, about 3ft of snow here in NH my BSM stopped working. Yesterday finally took my time removed bumper caps and unplugged everything, made sure connectors are clean and plugged it back. Turned the BSM back on - error message. Haven’t tried driving around with the BSM on to see if it recalibrates

Yeah I drove maybe 5-10 minutes, ( 2 or 3 songs) before I noticed the warning went away after cleaning. I didn't take everything apart like you and do a deep clean. Pretty much just sprayed a hose at my bumper and from under

Update...So as I posted earlier, mine stopped working after an ice storm and after many hours of driving around with it turned on and not resetting, mine just started working.Cant seem to understand why some reset fast and mine took 4ever but just wanted to let someone out there know that wasn't gonna spend the money to get it fixed that there is still hope.

I was just at the beach yesterday, where my BSM stopped working. I'll give my truck a good wash this weekend and update on if this fixes the problem.

Update || Haven't even had time to clean my truck yet, but went out to do some errands and left the BSM on. Came back not even 5 miles down the road!!

I see where some folks are saying that the dealer charged them $150 bucks for re calibration. That's not bad, my tundra came out of the body shop (got hit while stopped at a light by a 16 year old playing on her phone) body shop had to replace both sensors and then take it to a dealership for them to calibrate... receipt showed $450 for the service. Seemed excessive to me but her insurance covered everything. My Taco doesn't have them for just that reason, I knew down the road a steel bumper would happen and since Toyota doesn't have the good sense to put the antenna for the BSM in the taillights like many other manufacturers I opted out on this vehicle.

Just want to say thanks for this post. I cleaned out the bumper and drove about 10 miles with BSM on and it did reset itself to work.

I second this! Lost my BSM during the snow/ice storm a few days ago. Fast forward car wash and then leaving the sensors on despite error message and about ten mins later…viola!

Appreciate all of the insight folks

Same. Same. After a long beach drive, got the ‘BSM Not Available’ message. Gave it a good cleaning and kept trying it on and then back off for a couple days with negative results. Then when I finally just left it on and put up with the message for a couple miles, the message finally went away.
    Thanks TW!

My blind spot monitor went down from driving in some bad snow, turned it on while driving through the rain about a week later and after about 5 minutes it's back to working again. You just got to wait through the annoying alert.
