I do not know whether my hearing is going bad or the volume of my blinker is decreased. Either way, is there any way to increase the volume? 2011 Toyota Tacoma

Actually, too much fluid. Adding fluid would further increase the volume.

Mostly correct but 2nd gens use an electronic relay for the turn signals so your hear the relay clicking. Nothing you can do to make it louder.

Now alot of newer vehicles where the turn signals are controlled by the Body Control Module or some other module will have a speaker that creates the clicking sound or they run it through the radio speakers.

    I drive a Miata.
I once owned an 85 Cadillac Fleetwood. It had a raised bevel on the front of each fender, and on each of those were three little fiber optic lenses. The little bevel would glow orange if the turns were lit, white if the headlights were on, and blue if the high beams were on. Not only was it an easy indicator that hey, your turns are on, but it was also a great indicator if you had a burnt bulb.

My grandparents had a 1990 caddy STS. The turn signal was a "bong, bong, bong" bell chime.

Of those, my favorite indicator of all the cars I've driven was the Fleetwood, and my absolute least favorite that I absolutely loathed was the STS.

I always kinda wanted to find an aftermarket kit to bring back GMs one and only good idea.

I followed you guys' advice and topped off the blinker fluid using the cheap stuff I found in a box store. Now it makes no sound at all (that I can hear) and blinks much slower. Too high viscosity? Do I need to flush the relay?

I love how automotive manufacturers are all over the place on this, anything from just a quiet little click to remind you it’s on to some GM vehicles that make you feel like you’re sitting inside a 500 foot tall clock tower.

You can actually by louder relays at the parts stores..... marketed specifically for this.

To my knowledge nobody makes an aftermarket alternative to the 12 pin flasher (DRL/Tow Package) relay that 2nd gens use, there are a few alternatives for the 8 pin one (non DRL/Tow Package) but most of them are for using LED bulbs.
