Making Progress at least now you have a place to start.

Remember it is the complete circuit not just the sensor.

    Loose connection damaged wires

Now my 2000 EWD says the ECM ground is under the the data link connector it might still be there

As stated it should be 3 brown wires

    Happy hunting

Blinking CEL on an older Toyota, I would look at the injectors and see if they are leaking, can usually spot it when the pressure it up and plugs are out with a small flash light.

So the local toyota dealer said they would diagnose it for $130. They had it all morning and said they couldn't get it to stall. I went over there to help them out. To make a long story short we were driving it with the laptop scanner hooked up and figured out by accident that touching the turn signal would make it stall. So like Wyoming09 suggested, sounds like a damaged wire. I left it there for them to finish trouble shooting and come up with a quote to fix it. I feel a lot better now with a clue what is wrong. Wondering if the steering shaft is chafing something. I will report back what they say.

I doesn't seem like any wires related to the turn signal could interfere with the computer or engine, so I'll be curious to find out what the problem is.

Do you have any sort of security system installed? Some of them require you to hold the headlight switch or something like that to start the car. I was thinking maybe a security system was erroneously shutting it down.

The turn signal switch might just have been a fluke but having it shutdown is better then not being able to see it happen at all.
