Hello, everyone. First time poster, long time lurker.

I have an 02 Tacoma xcab wish a flashing SRS light. Did the jumper trick and determined it was a B0B8/72 code. Had it taken to the dealership to get a specific diagnosis/repair estimate and this is what they came back with:

"Confirmed SRS light is on. Has code B0B8 for short to battery for LH squib airbag circuit. Checked for voltage at connector for LH pretensioner and has 2 volts (should be 0) indicating that there is a short somewhere between pretensionser and center airbag assembly.

    Replace SRS harness.
To replace harness cost would be between $3915 and 4495."

I have searched fairly extensively through Google and have not come up with a solution for this problem other then letting the dealership take me for a around a third of the value of my Tacoma. I'm thinking of taking it to another dealership to get a second opinion. Has anyone else run into this? Can anyone think of a workaround other than modifying the bulb

Air bag systems are such a liability issue that in no way any dealer would or should try to repair wiring to this system. It's all or nothing. Just can't take the chance on it.
I know it's not what you want to hear but that's today's reality.
I've had to tell customers the same thing.
I know the problem, I see the problem, I can't repair the problem.
I don't even tell the customer exactly where the issue is. I don't want them trying to do a half ass repair.
    HOWEVER:
In one case I had an issue simular to yours.
I had to check the wiring twice because something just didn't seem right.
The wiring ohmed out correctly but it threw a uncommon code and it needed up being the center air bag ecu even though it sent me to a harness.

I hope they ohmed out the harness to isolate the problem area. It takes time on your dime and you need to comfirm it.

Do it right or don't touch it.

Tacoma Mike thanks for the quick reply. I'm currently stationed on the opposite side of the country than the truck, so I wasn't able to grill the tech when it came out. I can't be sure, but it seems they just ran the diagnosis by the book from the FSM and left it at that. All I got was their estimate sheet with that description. I'm not into doing things half-assed but this really just feels like a "go-away" number to me.

Do you happen to know what the harness number is for the SRS?

No I don't sir. Would have to be at the shop with all your truck info for them to plug it in.
I can understand your "go-away" theory.
It's just so expensive to fix anything now.
I would find a way to get more information from them to help you.
    I wish you luck.
    Ty for your service...
    Mike...
