    Circuit City rocked.

They got some great talent, know audio, tv, etc. Corporate decided "we are doing so good we can fire those guys" and hired minimum wage to fill the stores helping people. It seemed overnight the staff was clueless, HDMI? what's that?

Best Buy learned and sucked up some of the employeers into a "geek squad" thing, and is still going.

The Good Guys was my dad's favorite electronics store when I was a kid in the 90s. West coast people might remember it.

They were only in the northwest, but how about GI Joe's sporting goods.... I was sad to see them go.

I do remember shopping at Miller's Outpost in Palm Springs. I also bought a pair of baggy pants and my mom also threw them out.

What I do miss is the food, O' Boise chips and Ripplins chips.

On this day, the 4th of July, I honor Sports Authority. If you had not passed away, I would have visited you for some assorted celebratory apparel, a couple of lawn chairs and maybe a horseshoe set.
I miss you old friend. Dicks and Academy were too much for you to handle.

Today, I salute you, Shoney’s, for your awesome breakfast bar. Even though you still exist in very limited areas, the commute is too long to drive to the closest location for epic breakfast.
It’s like a little bit of me died when you closed.

The local Shoney’s is now a Mexican seafood restaurant.

No matter how hard you try, it is impossible to make that up.

There was a very brief golden age when Tandy (parent company of Radio Shack) went whole hog with attempting to establish an empire. Radio Shack, Comp USA, and Incredible Universe, along with a few others. In high school we used to sneak up to the roof of Tandy Center and watch the R&D guys test the RC cars that were about to hit the shelves next Christmas. Had a cool chat with one of them and how he landed that job while he was messing around with some dual motor, 4WD buggy. That bastard zipped for a $100 retail toy. When it hit the shelves six months later I had to have it. It only lasted a few weeks before the battery started a small fire and spewed it's ni-cad guts into my parents lawn.

I used to work at Osman's. We had rollerblade races around the main aisle after hours. Sometimes I'd compete with the tandem bike, but they put a stop to that when I took out the golf display.

When I was a kid I loved going to the ancient Montgomery Wards. A 5 story building that was always lacking in proper lighting. I loved taking the freight elevator to the top floor and browsing the dusty displays of furniture and appliances, and the few overhead florescents always flickering and threatening to go out. What a wonderfully creepy place. It was turned into hipster apartments over 20 years ago. Kinda sad.

Now that is a hell of a good story about your youth. Times were so much simpler. Kudos to your Tandy Center trespassing.

What were those CD/DVD/video game stores called? You used to be able to listen to like thirty second snippets of songs on headphones throughout the store and play video games on consoles throughout the store.
