I didn’t read every post so sorry if already mentioned but the irony of Blockbuster is you can watch a Blockbuster documentary on Netflix. Netflix ruined Blockbuster.

Ah! But that's one of the main points of the movie...Blockbuster ruined itself. It had nothing to do with Netflix and everything to do with being used as leverage by a much bigger corporation that was in massive debt.

Another example of a company that was "too big to fail."

I haven't seen the documentary, but I do remember when Netflix started getting big it was the nail in the coffin for Blockbuster...or so it felt like. I wonder if they had taken a cue from them and tried to compete with a movie-by-mail part of their business, if they'd still be around today.

Maybe we'd be Blockbuster and chillin instead of Netflix and chillin

How much time was wasted inside a Blockbuster? I remember going there with a date and it was always “what do you want to watch? I don’t know, what do you want to watch?” and looking at the same crap over and over.

Rewinding a video? Kids these days have no idea…..

Not bragging but we had a small rewinding machine. Old pop didn’t tolerate rewinding on his VCR. Side note, I believe he bought it Radio Shack…..

I remember mom bought a vhs tape about 3 years before we ever got a vcr. We weren’t dirt poor but we didn’t have things others had. I thought my friends with ice makers on their fridges were rich, they also had A/C in the house, something we didn’t have until I was 17

Not bragging, but I never charged for not rewinding. I thought it was shitty rule and we had a huge rewind machine that would rewind 10 tapes at a time.

Stonestreet drugs near us. Small drugstore that sold firearms and bows. I bought my first Darton bow there. A friend of mine has a Browning A-bolt made in Belgium he got there too.

Now that’s America. Drugstore with gun department. No way the government would ever allow that nowadays.

The old JC Whitney and their catalogs for car parts. Not a store but mail order, as a teenager I bought parts to customize my cars. Couldn’t get them anywhere else.
Now part of carparts.com doesn’t seem the same.

Nobody has mentioned the thrill of renting a VCR at the video store. They came in a big metal suitcase with fitted padding and included the coax cable to hook to the TV and the balancing transformer (balun) to adapt from the 75 ohm coax to the 300 ohm twin lead antenna terminals on the back of the TV. All listed line by line on the rental agreement.

How about dropping your film off at a yellow roof Fotomat hut in a shopping center parking lot?
