Well, I installed the motor from Amazon and it still makes a flutter noise on low and medium:mad: Working on getting it replaced and in the meantime I'm going to try the "fix" on the factory one.

    Immediately after installing it?

I wonder if everyone is talking about the same thing.

Most of you guys have got to have phones or cameras capable of taking video. Why not post a Youtube upload of the noise yours is making. Mine is not making any noise, just stopping now and then.

    Yes, immediately. Bummer...

The sounds are either a chirp or a flutter, depending on the post. For me, the OEM was a chirp. This replacement looks to be a problem with the fan balance. The stopping now and then is weird though.

Mine has always made a very low rhythmic noise that I thought was either the motor or just a sound from the fan blades themselves at slow speeds.

Mine has only not come on with the switch 3 times. Once with the A/C. I just rolled the window down. Next time I got in the truck it was fine.

The next time, on the coldest day in January so far... on the way home from work, with no gloves. I could not do anything to get it working.

After I got home I searched around and found these threads. I went out to the truck to try some things and it was working.

Next morning I get in the truck to go to work and it's not running. I tap the bottom of the motor with my hand, and it starts right up and has been fine ever since.

It's almost like the few times it's done this the brushes have parked in a bad spot over the commutator or something.

wait, so your new TYC blower is making a flutter noise?

Now are you determining this noise but holding your head under the passenger leg area? Or from sitting at the driver seat?

Right now, my OEM is chirping again after having it greased months back. I remember hearing the fluttering noise, if I held my head right in the passenger area. But while driving, I couldnt hear it at all. Until the chirps came back. The fluttering noise should be because of the fan blades. Cant fix that.

Just placed an order for the TYC motor.

The fans regardless of brand and model have always made a fluttering noise. Keep in mind, the fan motor when running is floating a little inside the housing. Thats's where the 4 balancing screws come into play. If you think you're supposed to get complete silence from the fan itself it's not going to happen. These fan spin with a lot of RPM that the torque generated by the movement of the motor is going to cause the motor to move a little as as well.

I can hear it from the driver's seat while driving. The radio has to be turned above 10 for me not to hear it. If you pull the cabin filter and watch the blower start, you can tell it's out of balance.

I think the point we're all making is that when I bought the truck brand new, it didn't make the noise. It took two months for it to happen. Same with the factory replacement. I'm now on my third motor. It amazes me that with a $33K truck, they can't find a fix for a $40 blower assembly.

I agree. this is the only vehicle that I have ever had a problem with the blower motor. none of my GM's, Ford's and Jeep have ever had this problem. Worst of all, it's not like that this blower motor desing is unique to the Tacoma. I've got my fingers crossed that the TYC fan will work for awhile.

Dealer told me it was just leaves when I took it to get looked at. They said they cleaned it all out and it was fine now. I barely made it a block down the street before it started chirping again and this time it was worse than before and happened on both the lowest 2 settings.

The leaves thing is a piece of junk. If they removed the Cabin Filter then a leave could have fallen down from there during the process. This issue is very frustrating. Bring it back and have them fix it.

Taking mine in this week to have them check the third fan. It lasted about a month so about 1000 miles!

It will be interesting to see what they say.

I'm waiting as well...bought my truck in late april 2010 and have already had this replaced twice! They are on a nation backorder because the fan is being re-designed, or so i am told

Took mine in and the fan is still on backorder.

Seems like they last a few months and start chirping again..... why wouldn't toyota fix the problem and not have to keep replacing these fans!?!?!

I have resorted to putting the blower on level 3 and rolling my window a little not to overheat. Now it's starting to do it on level 3 and 4. Seems to me it would be a balance issue if it quiets as it spins faster. I will try the self fixes then ream my dealer a new one!
