So, I received the blower motor recall notice in the mail, and called my dealer. To my surprise, I was the the first one to contact them about this, and mine will be the first that they check evidently.

Unfortunately, it looks like it's going to be a tedious process. I have to bring the truck in, and I'm told they need to check the blower motor to determine if its affected. Then, they order a new blower motor tied to the VIN# of the truck. They're not just stocking up on blower motors for the recall, but are ordering on a case-by-case basis/

So, looks like I've got to have them take the truck apart, verify, put it back together, then take it back again if it needs to be replaced. What a pain in the derriere.

I’d wait until the recall goes a bit further and maybe the dealer will stock up on the parts.

Also, I’d make them replace it even if it’s not broken, that’s what a recall is.

Can you share a picture of the notice and what year/models they effect? Feel free to block out personal details of course.

EDIT: I do wonder now if this is what caused my overheating at idle issue.

NOPE... Fucckton of NOPES. Dealership ordered the parts for me without inspecting. Recalls don't work this way ( The way you are describing). once a certain amount in a batch of X are deemed defective ( And your VIN is part of lot XXXX), they replace the whole lot. its the way TSA/ISO and part tracking works. I work in automotive manufacturing.

    Stock.
I just had my truck in at the dealer for the 25K service. When they ran my VIN the service guy mentioned the recall and told me if they had a blower motor in stock they would swap it out for me. They ended up having one and it maybe added 25 minutes to the appointment. Sounds like your had the new guy at your dealer.

I took mine in this morning and told them I want the blower motor parts changed due to the recall and they took it in and will be doing the transmission TSB while it’s in there. It seems odd that they’d inspect it first? If there’s a recall there’s a recall. Part of it is that there can be failure at unknown times so it seems odd that they’re making you wait until something breaks. If I were you I’d look for a different dealer, they sound incompetent.

Do they have to remove parts of the dash? I don’t want them taking apart my new truck. I got the notice too.

Then don't go in till it fails.

On a road trip in the dead of winter.

Maybe while you wait they'll figure out how to replace it labroscopacly. :D

I took my truck in for the 20K service, without even asking me, my service advisor said they will order the parts for the blower. I was surprised and today got a call, they replaced it.

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
Recall or bulletin? How is a blower motor a safety issue (recall)? Maybe not being able to defog windshield? :notsure: Surely they didn't continue on with the second gen blower? I have a brand new one sitting in the basement, waiting for the original on my '06 to finally die. It's been noisy for like 4 years (mostly cold months), but still works. 2nd Gen PN is 87103-04044.

I think it was a recall, my dealership replaced mine with out any prompting from me. I didn't even know about it yet. But they can not seem to replicate any of my actual concerns.

Figured I'd update this...I scheduled my free service and blower motor "inspection," but the dealership called and said they ordered the blower motor so both the service and recall could be done in the same visit. Thankfully I don't have to go back twice, because no matter what I have done, I'm there for 3 hours minimum.

Just got a call from the dealer about this recall and I'm going in next week to replace it.

First time back to the dealer since buying the truck.

I believe it has something to do with the fan hub mount not being properly sized for the motor spindle, which causes the fan to crack at the hub over time.

So they are replacing the "fan" and NOT the motor, eh..? It looks the motor has to come out so they can replace the squirrel cage...

    Am I right..?
