Blower Motor Resistor Location?!?

2016 Limited.

I feel like a fool here, but from what I can see online, my blower motor resistor "should" be mounted very close to my blower motor.

Hell....I can even see the molded plastic that has a cut out where it would normally go....however....the cut out isn't cut out.

Where the heck is this resistor????

 

Does the limited have that auto blower speed like on some other vehicles? If so it may be part of the hvac control computer..

Not saying it does, just that I don't know, I dont own a limited.

 

Nope….this is where I have the cutout spot that isn’t cut out.

 

Resistors are for manual selection HVAC, you have a blower motor control unit that is located higher up near the passenger air bag.

 

Here you can see where the previous poster said it should be but my spot isn’t cut out

 

Oh….so the classic “blower motor resistor” that rock auto said was compatible with my truck in fact is not.

 

Rock auto typically doesn't account for trim level, if you search for a front u joint, it doesnt know or care if you have 4x4 or not. They'll sell it.

I’m at a loss…

 

Resistors create heat as they limit voltage. For this reason it sits in the path of the fan exhaust. Moving it elsewhere could overheat it causing it to melt or even start a fire. It’s in that position to cool it when in use.

having said that….anyone need a brand new resistor?!? I’ll sell it for a good price. Hahha

 

I’ve replaced a few on my 2nd gen. I can tell you that the generic Dorman ones have a high failure rate. The last one was DOA. I finally annied up the money and bought the new style from the dealer. It’s been running great for 4 years now.
