Blower motor squeek / chirp on low *FIX*

Got my new blower mower installed today 3/4/11. All is well now, will report back in a week or two with an update!

 

Good Luck! I assume my Tacoma built 12/10 has the new blower motor and it just started squeaking today.

 

Is this a recall? My truck that was just built in 12/10 started started squeaking last week - a fan in the dash when the fan is on setting 1.

 

Not a recall....a TSB. A recall is issued for safety issues; whereas a TSB is issued if a car company notices a large trend of maintenance issues.

 

Do you know the part number they installed? Was it on the paperwork you got?

 

Yeah, my part number was the 4042 number that some people on here have been talking about. I'm not convinced that this will fix it for good, but all is well for now.

 

I'm pretty level headed when it comes to things like this, but come on Toyota! For freakin 6 years, it's been an issue for virtually everyone. Why can't you address it with a new part? I'm not even expecting a free fix. I wanna be able to buy a new updated part. Did they buy up a shit ton of these motors in advance? Who can we all call to voice our frustration en masse?

 

I went in last friday for an oil change and to check my fan for the recuring noise. The original was replaced last january and they installed an insulation kit. The second fan was making more noise than the original 2 days after they replaced it. The third fan that they put in last friday started making noise before I got home from the dealer. I'm not sure why toyota doesn't redesign the motor to eliminate the problem. Cost is the reason most likely. I guess I might pull it apart and grease it myself. Not exactly the same old toyota quality I'm used to. Oh well I have 2 years left on the warranty. I hope they get it right eventually.

 

I just had part 87103-04042 installed on Friday. I don't have much faith that the squeak will stay away, but at least for now it is gone. One added benefit, the new fan is a bit quieter on the lower settings, so it seems something has changed.

 

You are probably right "why toyota doesn't redesign the motor to eliminate the problem. Cost" Even if it is cheaper to replace every ones fan 2 or 3 times and I can't see how that could be - it sure doesn't do much for their rep does it ?

 

Mine was ticking on setting 1 and 2 so just adjusted the screws on the back of the motor and it seemed to stop the tapping, it's still a little whiney so maybe someday that it starts ticking again I'll grease up that bearing in there.

Adjusting the screws did lessen the ticking though, thanks for the tip.

 

Took mine apart 3 months ago, lubed, put it back together and installed it in truck. Fan runs every time I'm in my truck and still no noise since I put it back in. I understand that a new truck shouldn't do this and ya it's real annoying!!! But seems that even the new "redesigned" motor still does it. I suggest you guys just give up. Pull it out, clean, lube, install, done! It's easy!!

 

I did this yesterday.....finally. It seemed pretty easy - that's why i am not sure if i did it right. Getting the motor out was super easy and taking it apart was pretty easy.

Here is where i am not sure if i did what i was supposed to. I took the metal bell off and lubed up the shaft with some 10w30. Then i lubed up the hole with some oil as well. I jammed the shaft into the hole and moved it in and out, in and out for a bit and then pulled it out to see if the lube was where it should be. Everything seemed alright so i jammed it in and started to put things back together. Fitting the rubbers was a little tricky but i got it. As i said before it seemed pretty easy and i barely broke a sweat.

I don't know anything about electric motors so i didn't actually touch anything in there. I know some guy have taken it apart.

Got mine done today, part # 4042. Let's see...

With these recent reports of people getting their parts, I have my fingers crossed. I've been on back-order since January 28th.

 

apparently my dealer is just good, I stopped in to set up my third blower motor install about two weeks ago, got a call yesterday and they're putting it in on friday.

still super annoyed with it, but I figure I'll get this third one put in before my warranty is up, and fix it myself at the first sign of chirping... I was going to do that with the current blower, but it's cold out and I don't have a garage, so it kept getting put off...

 

Question for those of you who got the #4042 part did you also get a sound dampening kit installed, or was it a straight swap of the blower?

 

In mine they replace:

Part # 87103-04042 MOTOR SUB-ASSY. B
Part # 04009-46104 SSP. BLOWER MOTOR

So I guess that one is the motor and the other is the insulation kit.
