They just swapped the blower on mine. No mention to me or on my work order of a dampening kit.

Just had 3RD Blower motor installed, I was told it was a NEW PART number.
I will post the number when I receive the paperwork.
Lets get to the good part  I now have to turn the fan to HIGH to see if
it's on, my nerves are very happy as I commute quite far.

Definitely I didn't get the new one for sure, because mine is loud as the old one.

I guess I should add to the thread... I too am hearing squeaks from my blower motor, ever since about 14,000 miles or so. I figured I had something stuck in the blower until I saw this thread. Never saw a TSB for it though.... hmmm.

It is unbelievable how widespread this problem is.

i have had this for about 20,000 miles. ordered the new on at the dealer in jan... it hasnt come in yet because the part is on national hold? the parts guy said that toyota may be looking at a fix before they send out another suspected bad part? i think this is AFU.

Just got a call from Toyota Customer Service. Seems my part has been delivered to the dealer.

I'll post up after the install.

Has anyone taken the new blower out to see if any design changes are visible?

I got a call today that my blower motor is in. BUT.....

The new insulation that they put around the blower motor is still on back order. He continued that this is what they are installing to prevent further complaints because it "hides" the noise.

It seems to me, they didn't fix the motor but figure they can hide the problem under some sound insulation. Maybe that will work...I don't know. I suppose that might be easier than designing, testing and shipping a new motor.

    We'll see...

I went into my dealer today (not the one i bought it at), to have the chirp on low looked at.
The sound is a rather high pitched, chirping, squeaky noise.
The Manager came back to me, said they could not replicate it, but to come back if it did it again.
Driving home, same issue, so i drive right back, and the man hops into my car, for a drive to see what he can hear.
Says that the sound is just the motor, and that its perfectly normal, and that there is nothing they can do about it.
They did check into it, and claim that it is the new blower motor (bought the truck in feb) and that i should not be having any issues.
This is going to drive me slowly insane, as i cannot use the ac/heat on the low setting without hearing it... It has in the past gotten upto a very loud "whunk whunk whunk" kinda noise...
under 2k miles on the truck...
    Oh joy.

^ I could easily replicate the problem by removing my glove box and reaching my hand in to turn the fan. At one point during the rotation, it clearly "chirps". If you have the problem, it is noticeable. Yes, fan's "whir" but this is different.

With my fan on low, I can almost count the rotations based on the "chrip". It is that distinct.

Also, if I turn my fan on high, the blade spins too fast (or is too loud) and I do not hear the chirp. When I return it to low, the chirp will be gone for about a minute. It is worst when the truck sits for a while and I only turn the blower to low.

    Mine's a 2009 with 24,000 miles.

Yea, i know that the fan will hum a little, and be more audible at a lower speed, yada yada, but the crickets that come from it.. thats just a bit much..

Obviously you are not the only one.
I had an 09 that did it, Had the fan replaced.
Traded for a '10. It started doing the same thing- Crickets.
Dealer replaced the fan. The noise came back.
Told the dealer about it again. They said a new fan is being made and they would let me know when it was available... Still waiting...

i may be getting the "well you didnt' buy it here" runaround..
I really don't know how they cannot hear something that i can clearly hear, and so can others who have been in my truck.

I've been reading this thread for 16 pages and was just wondering - The old motors didn't make noise - wonder why they don't just order some motors from there old vendor instead of trying to cover up the noise ?

I went through the same thing you did....eventually the floor manager came out and got me my part ordered, after three visits  the first time I paid for " leaf removal " and I told myself that maybe it was just leaves, second time they couldn't reproduce it, third time it was chirping like mad constantly. To this day the shop guy apologizes....honestly I think it was because of my age, being 25 a lot of the older guys in the shop look down at me, the mechanic was basically smirking when he said it was leaves the first time.

I had the same issue as you all.....I went in to the dealer and turned my heat on low. When it began to "chirp" they said, "Cool, we get a replacement ordered!". 2 months later they finally got the part in and no problems yet......*knock on wood*

I did the fix as outlined in the thread when the truck had ~4K miles on it. Now at 10K, it's starting to just barely return..have my fingers crossed it doesn't get any worse. I saw a show on Speed TV that replaced the fan assembly with an aftermarket one on an older Tacoma, has anyone else seen that one? ...If so, do you recall the motor assembly they replaced it with?
    OR
Does anyone know of an aftermarket blower motor that has a bearing instead of a bushing that will fit?
