Any update as to whether the "new" fan has actually fixed the chirping? Previously I had the fan replaced under warranty... and about 6mo later it started up again. It's obnoxious now and I'm torn between tearing the thing apart myself to figure out a fix... or making the dealer take another stab at it.

You have to make sure you get the new blower with the new part number. Otherwise you may just get a 'new' blower that they had in stock but which is still the defective model.

my 2011 tacoma had a squeak in the blower motor, had only 2300 miles on the truck when it started, brought it to the dealer and there was a updated blower motor available so it was replaced and fixed the problem.

For those of us who are out of warranty but had the blower motor replaced with another defective part, Toyota should step up to the plate and do the right thing. Gives us the new part and install it for FREE!

been about 1.5 months and the thing is quiet and works great. Hope it stays that way. What a difference a little bit of piece and quiet makes when driving.......sometimes i dont need music.

Don't know if u guys care but there is a TSB for the chirp noise 4 the tacomas. My local toyota service department told me about it and fixed it. No chirp and the new motor works great.

I just got a "new" blower motor put in about 3 weeks ago. Yesterday it started ticking and squeeling louder than I've ever heard one before. I've been through 4 motors so far. 2007 with 165k....

Check your part number. I am having mine replaced this week and requested them to order the above part number.

    Annoying.

The dealer must not have installed the new motor.

So, I took my 2010 Tacoma in for the blower chirp today and about 5 hrs later the service manager called and that my truck was ready for pick up. I asked what the fix was and she said that there were leaves in the cage and that they removed them. I was very skeptical about this from what others have said and ended up just agreeing that it was fixed. Pulled out from the dealership and not 5 miles down the road, I hear the damn noise again. Called back to the service manager and her first response was I will order it right now. Not sure why they couldn't just have done that to begin with but in the end, I will hopefully be taken care of.

Many, many years ago I used to wind custom armatures and build custom motors for 1/24 scale slot cars. I learned a few tricks that I will throw out here, but please use at your own risk.

First the commutator. We used to take high temperature epoxy and completely coat the commutator, then turn it down using very fine sandpaper. There would then be no gap between commutator poles, just a smooth surface that will minimize bouncing of the brushes.

The armature should be magnetically centered and should not have much end-to-end play. Use thin fiber washers to get it centered.

Balancing of the entire assembly is important.

One trick that hasn't been mentioned, and may not be possible with this motor, is to heat up the bronze oilite bearing to burn off the cutting oil that is embedded in it. I used to put it on a 1000 watt soldering iron tip until it stopped smoking, then drop the hot bearing in some light motor oil. As the bearing cools it will suck up the better lubricating oil. (Actually, in the best motors we used ball bearings but I digress...)

Again, not sure if this is possible for the motor but you do want to be sure the bearing does not spin in its mount.

Just some ideas. If none of them apply, well I tried. FWIW my original 07 motor has never made a peep and if the truck is running the fan is blowing (so now that I said that it will start squeaking tomorrow).

Exact same sequence of events happened to me. I called them the next day to tell them that it started squeaking as soon as I left the dealership, told them it really doesn't sound like a leaf stuck in there, and that I found a TSB to fix it. He said he will look into it and order whatever part is needed, so hopefully they'll get it right this time. I will have to get back there anyway since the first time around they ordered the wrong leaf springs for the rear suspension TSB...

I just took my 2011 in for its 5K service and they changed the blower. Said there was a recall. Obviuosly a long-standing problem.

Interesting. I mentioned it to them at the 5k service for my 2011, and they didn't say anything about a recall, just gave me the "leaf stuck in the duct" BS... Didn't even know about the TSB until I told them...

So had it replaced. It was the new part number that was installed. What is the difference in the new motor?

Tasty Human> you seem knowledgeable on elec motors care to chime in?

    Sweet silence...

I have been blessed with a 2007 that has never had a fan noise so haven't even looked at the fan motor. Well, there was the one time a mouse crawled into the squirrel cage and but that was more of a lysol cleaning job than anything else.

Looked at my invoice and the tech wrote "Blower Motor chirps on low speeds. Confirmed, replaced per TSB. Tested and checked all ok".
The TSB # was 0162-11. They did this all on their own as I didn't hear the "chirp". (Fired too many rounds w/o ear protection) Hope this helps.
