It took a couple of months, and a couple of trips to the dealership, but I have a brand new (and quiet!) blower motor, and a 4th leaf on my rear springs! Quiet and solid ride, finally!

The first time I went, for my 5000 mile check-up, they ordered the springs. The second time they installed the springs, but instead of adding a 4th leaf, they just replaced my springs with a new 3-pack (...). Then they ordered the correct springs, but they were back ordered nationally, and also ordered the blower motor. Finally, I went back last week and had the correct springs added, and the newt blower motor installed. Now my truck drives a little more like a truck, and sounds a little less like a bike with a baseball card in its spokes.

I put the Continental fan in this weekend. thoughts:

-looks basically the same, mounts up perfect
-the OEM fan, when it works, provides a nice wush sound. The Continental model has a bit of a robotic whizzing, which is not as nice, but much preferable to erratic whistling!

    Go go lifetime warranty!

This damn thing started squaking at me yesterday. I can't believe it only took seven months to go. The worst part is it didn't start slowly. It wasn't there at all then it was there all the time. Coming up on my 10K service so they'll be fixing this at the same time. I figure as long as it's still under warranty they can do it and when it goes later, I'll follow the directions in this thread.

Edit: Mine chirps on low and speed 2. Annoying as hell!

My Tacoma has 102,000 miles and for about the last 40,000 I've been living with the chirp. The blower motor finally died yesterday, so sad. I ordered a new motor and resistor in anticipation of its death as it was intermittently cutting out.

Latest blower motor cost was $108.81 and the resistor was $24.95 from toyotapartscenter.net. Came to $149.91 with shipping.

Just finished the install in a hotel parking lot since we're on vacation. It took all of 20 minutes with the hardest part of the install being the removal of the pigtail of the old blower motor from the wiring harness. Tip of the day: use a very small flat head jewelers screwdriver and push down on the lip and then lever it out.

Here's a quick rundown of how I did it and tools:

Gearwrench flex head socket set with extender and a 5.5mm socket head.
    Small jewelers flathead screwdriver.

Unhook the resistor. It's in the back by the firewall, easy latch.

Remove the 3 screws holding the blower motor in with the 5.5mm socket. Used the extension on 2 of these because it was easier. As it comes down wedge out the black wiring harness clip. The white one just unclips and the wire will come out. Take your jewelers screwdriver now that you have some room to see and work with and wedge it in the top of the pigtail, slowly push down and lever it out tugging at the end of the pigtail, don't grip it by the wires though. It'll come out pretty easy this way.

Now access the resistor. 2 5.5mm headed screws. Get the rear one first, it's a little of a pain. Then the front and out the resistor comes.

Slide in the new resistor, the nipple to the latch should be facing you. Put in the rear 5.5mm bolt first, then the front. Wiggle the resistor so the foam gets a good seal as you tighten it down.

Install the blower motor. When I set mine up there, it held in place without the screws. So I could use both hands to thread in the screws. Tighten them all up. Hook up the resistor, then the pigtail and reinstall the wiring clamp as well at this time.

    That's it.

Probably one of the easiest installs on this truck I've done. Only reason it took 20 minutes is I kept messing with that pigtail until I remembered the jewelers screwdriver trick. Came right out.

Just wanted to pass this info on to guys who are out of warranty but want to fix.

I don't remember seeing any resistors... all I had to do was the fan body itself.

Well, after 3 months with replaced blower motor, I'm happy to say the sqeek hasn't returned. However, I do get other noises out of this motor. Granted, they are not nearly as annoying as the Chirp so I've decided I could live with it.

the squeak returned after 11 months. still under warranty. (there was a 1-year on the new blower regardless of vehicle warranty/age.)

they installed a "more improved 2nd-generation replacement blower" today and the squeak is gone...

    for now.

Had a new "improved" blower motor installed at Toyota of Concord in NC without any questions asked. Very straight forward. No chirps yet. *crosses fingers*

Got mine replaced by the dealer with my 10K service the other day. This is definitely a different motor and/or fan than what was in there. It doesn't sound the same at all (much quieter) yet still puts out a reasonable airflow. Maybe they actually did finally resolve this issue?

took mine in yesterday for the 10k service and to check out the chirp. told needed to be diagnosed by a tech before they replaced it. on the way in, i couldn't get the chirp to sound, thus thinkin they may not do it. the service manager was cool though, and loved what i had done to my truck, so when i picked it up, he stated they didn't hear a chirp either, but replaced it anyway (#87103-04043):)
