    hi
I have a 97 6 cylinder 5sp manual transmission with a blown engine. It’s been sitting for a few years. I had thought to get it back on the road but I don’t know about the frame. To get it looked at I would have to register it and tow it to a dealer I think. Does it have to run to get the recall?

I’m thinking of putting a camper on it. I would like to take off the bed and build something, maybe extend it off the back. Not sure what I could haul around with it. I like the idea of the 4 wheels and the short wheelbase. Would like some feedback on this from anyone who has done this or maybe it’s not such a good Idea?

What’s the curb wt. and gross vehicle wt? I get a lot of different numbers?
    Thanks Mike

Call your local dealership and ask them about the frame rust info - whether or not you can tow an unregistered & non-running vehicle and have them inspect it.

    You have the extended cab?

sadly if the frame wasn't inspected before october 31st of 2010 you are up the creek, so to speak. that was the cut0off for the frame 'recall'

The truck had to be in your name for 1 year and it has to drive in under its own power.

I don't think that it had to be owned for one year, I had mine inspected & failed the day I picked it up. Got my new frame in July.

How did you kill it. Other then running it out of coolant or out of oil they are hard to kill...

Are you sure it will not run? I've drove one 4cyl Suzuki Sammy with 2 rods hanging out of the block ~ it was under powered and leaking oil like crazy but still running.

I'm screwed huh! snooze and lose.

It was my sons, had oil and coolant. Drove it over to a friends house, sat for a couple of days while the went to a concert, drove it home didn't notice anything. Next day wouldn't turn over, mechanic couldn't move it with a wrench. He was out of money then left the country. That was a couple of years ago.

    Thanks Mike

I just noticed this, it was in several posts that came up below mine?

Seems to contradict the 31 oct 10 ending of the frame recall?

    New frame recall/ warrantee extension
Since I'm working away lately. I brought my truck to the local dealership for an oil change. (I'd also never had any of the recall work done). The service writer asked if I'd recieved a letter concerning the frame recall. They have extended the mfg dates to include 01-04 tacomas They are also extending the frame warrantee to 15 years. My frame although it does have some rust on it was in good shape. (I did get a free ball joint job that I didnt need)
