I think if they found it flagged after the fact, then it'd be on them. There's no way he would have ok'd the repair if it wasn't covered... besides how was he supposed to know that it has some issues, he just bought it ;).

If I was the other guy I would want to know so I could have a talk with Toyota about remembering me for my payments while the truck was broke and should have been covered under warranty. If anything Toyota should do something for him, but the truck is yours now so it's not like he's going to try and take the truck back.

Again dude, you have to be one of the luckiest guys on here. What are you plans for mods?

If he failed to push the issue and just believed what the first dealer told him, I personally feel that it is his own loss.

It is stated in the owners manual to use Toyota recommended coolant or equivalent. He should have pushed the issue when the dealer denied the claim due to the coolant not being Toyota Red.

Eh, I think the OP simply played his cards right here, and the seller of the truck did not.

Good luck with truck, you got one hell of a deal.

    Congrats!
A little off topic, but how would anybody know the difference between Toyota coolant and any other coolant? Am I missing something here?

The Toyota coolant is bright pink, that's usually a pretty good indicator.

Chemical composition. There's a certain compound to avoid (an alcohol of some kind I believe) that is present in some off the shelf coolants. All the info is in your owner's manual.

You DID read your owner's manual...right?

there has to be a lot of negligance on that engine. i've got 136,782 on my 99 TRD Offroad 5spd, and never had any mechanical issues.

Ok. That's good to know. I've been skipping around the manual during bits of free time at work but haven't got to read it fully.
