I am going through this right now with my 2003. I sent the head out for a reconditioning. It was only 220 dollars and that way I know everything is right. They are doing the valve adjustment and all. A local machine shop is doing the work. I bought the fel pro gasket kit and new head bolts also. Hope to have it all back together this week. Hope this helps shawn

Doing mine this week. Here is the toyota removal and install that I found online. Head gaskets are sure a lot of fun.

Don't mean to resurrect an old thread, but i will be replacing my head gasket and getting a valve job done soon. Would the manual in the post above apply to my 2000 2.7 Tacoma? except for the COP seeing as i have coil packs. Just want to make sure I have the proper info before starting. Thanks!

Yes, that manual will work for all years, just do whatever spark setup you have. Time consuming, but went smooth.

Glad I found this thread. Turns out the 2010 I just bought has a blown Head Gasket. I was puckering real bad when I saw how much factory manuals for these later models cost. Not particularly liking the idea of using a Chilton's either. Those two PDFs just relieved quite a bit of stress. Thanks MadTaco461! Now to start collecting necessary hardware.

For a 2nd gen motor you'll want to pick up a haynes manual or search around a bit more. This is for a 2rz or 3rz motor. Yours has vvti. Not that it is anymore difficult, but you have a few details to look for and maybe different torque specs. I thought I saw the fsm for 05 plus on here.
