So I have a 2018 Tacoma bought it brand new last year. I have 10k miles on it now. I was driving home when all of a sudden I couldn’t turn my wheel while I was driving. It was super hard to turn. I get home and popped the hood and notices power steering fluid was all over my engine all up under the hood. Literally looked like a volcano erupted. I saw the cap to reservoir laying up turned right by the reservoir. Fluid was completely gone. Mind you that was the first time I ever opened my hood since buying it. So I’m thinking that when I took it to dealership for the 5k Toyota care service they didn’t put the lid on right when they checked the fluids because they were the last ones to have been under the hood. Needless to say I filled up the power steering fluid and now my truck is making weird noises and still not turning right. There’s still resistance when I turn and the steering wheel vibrates. I took it to dealership for the issue and for the 10k service. Service manager said there’s no way that the cap was loose or not put on right and lasted another 5k miles before the lid blew off. Which does make sense. But now they can’t figure out what’s going on. My question for y’all is what do y’all think is wrong? Now they trying to insinuate that I messed with the cap and caused it. Which is not true because it’s a new truck there was no reason for me to mess with stuff under the hood. Finally They did tell me that they resolved the noises and the steering BUT they are noticing bubbling in the lines and are not sure why. Any help here would greatly be appreciated!! I don’t want them to pin this on me because they are already saying that they don’t know if warranty is gonna cover whatever is wrong with it.

New truck, old truck.. if you haven’t opened your hood once in 10k miles then you’re neglecting your responsibility as an owner.

Whether I opened the hood or not this was gonna happened regardless. My question is what would cause this issue. I could’ve opened the hood once a day every day and this was gonna happen still. And you can’t tell me others wise because simply opening and checking things is a moot point when there’s a possible manufacturer issue at hand.

Sucked air into the system. Depends how long it went without any fluid.
Let the dealer deal with it
