Hey I have had my lift on for about 2 years now, I have successfully blown both of my rear shock. The 1st one blew about a year ago when I was doing a bit go "gentle" off roading. Now after a small fender bender my other rear shock is blown. They are both being replaced but I am concerned that they are going to blow again. Has any one else had this issue.

BTW when I say blown I mean oil leaking out of the shock.

I was under my truck a couple of months ago and noticed oil on the bottom of the dust boot. I was expecting the dealer to give me some of the weeping crap but they replaced at no charge without a word. I have 5160s.

my right rear blew after a couple years. hadnt been offroading in a long time either. one day i walked out and found a puddle under the shock. beauty of it was when i tried to take the shock off, the rear bolt was seized to the inner sleeve of the shock, so i ended up having to cut the shock off of the mount. i never even tried to get bilstein to warranty it since i cut it off.

How much oil is in a 5100 ? I just cleaned my rear breaks last Sunday and yesterday I had a line of oil down the driveway all over my rear wheel well and on the street were I backed out. I pulled the drum off the break thinking the wheel cylinder was bad and nothing. The line and bleeder screw were ok. The break reservoir is full of fluid. It's a lot of oil.

I don't know how much oil is in the rear shocks.

I wouldn't think a leaking shock would cause oil to get all over your wheel well. Could the oil be from the rear axle? Maybe a broken rear axle seal leaking. I'm no expert, just thinking of the possibilities.

That was second thought the seal. I thought maybe a few hard hits on the tire to get it off the brake drum might have done it. I'm going to check it. I had oil on the tailgate. Make that 6 hits to get it off.
    Thanks.

how much did you lift the rear?
im looking into rear shocks and on bilstien's web site says they are good upto one inch of lift only.
this might be why you blew them out.

I have Dakar's , it lifted it 4" but I had 64K miles and it was sagging from stock. OZ's average with them is 3". Funny thing when I cleaned the brakes the boots were off so I cleaned the 5100's and tied them down. With thicker wire ties.

    Bilstien 5100's @ 2.5 up front, 2" add-a-leaf.
Same issue had one go out after a few months with very little off-roading during that time. Replaced mine with a set of procomp es9000. Pretty sure the issue was the shop I ordered mine from gave me the stock length 5100's, and the two inch AAL with out the extended length either over extended or over compressed them. Either way I had shock oil all over the place.
