Out of curiosity has anyone ever blown a stock shock absorber? I have a leak coming from somewhere and the fluid is unfamiliar in viscosity and smell to me. I found the leak last night after finding spots on driveway. The passenger side wheel well is full of the fluid and the passenger side fronts side of the engine block is covered as well. (reasoning for first thinking it was oil)

I do have some attempted photos of the leak if that might help? Thanks again for the time. Really enjoying this forum.

People have definitely blown shock absorbers on here. You should upload the pics! In the lower right next to "Post Reply" you can click "Upload a File" to put them in here.

Okay here is my attempt at photos to best capture the leak. All photos are taken from under the truck, my head pointing towards the bed for reference of direction. If anyone has questions about the photos let me know and I will do my best to clarify. There is no fluid on drivers side, only passenger side.

Thats not from a shock... Hard to tell from the pics but I doubt a shock made that much of a mess.

All levels checked out normal this morning on main fluids, which is where I'm confused where that amount of fluid is coming from.

My first guess, but given that it's all around the wheel well, maybe CV? It doesn't look to be heavy CV grease but could have been diluted on the trail if it was wet.

OP check your CV boots and steering rack for any splits or dripping areas.

Those were taken last night, have since looked at the shock this morning in the daylight. Still can't place the leak. Looking at the shock is a novel idea.

I have blown out a brand new set of OME BP-51s. Just to reiterate that looks like something else.

x3 on the power steering fluid, it doesn't take much oil to look like it just detonated. 1. Did you check the fluid lvl when the engine was on or hot that could give you a very inaccurate reading? 2. Did it look a little foamy or had micro bubbles in Reservoir (air in the system indicates a leak). a couple drops of power steering fluid makes a hell of a mess and looks way worse then it could be.

No way from a shock. Something around the motor is leaking pretty bad.

It's a work in progress. See my build thread.
    What connection is this?

That looks like it *could* be the source.

Clean it up with degreaser, or steam clean it. Then with the engine running, check for leaks. Have some one crank on the steering wheel, and pump the breaks. If nothing drive it around the block and recheck.

Could have possibly ran over a quart of oil that feel out of another vehicle as well. I've seen weirder stuff happen.
