Just test drove a 2020 TRD OR and the lil blue screen that shows temp and airflow direction is black, the orange passenger airbag light was illuminated though. I'm just wondering if there was maybe a dimmer switch or something I'm missing? Or does that lil screen burn out?

    Is 2020 different than 2023?

I think the black parts on the sides of that screen is for the heated seat indicators, which only comes on tech pack

I think you are comparing the standard climate controls (what you call "black") to the Auto climate control ("blue").
The standard doesn't have the cheesey little blue LCD tech, that black bar above the controls is simply partially a filler.

See the difference of the wording on the controls?

yep, definitely the difference between the manual and automatic versions of the system.

my preference is the manual system if you've got a choice. less things to go wrong, and far easier to work on, if things do go bad.

yeah i think i was just expecting the 2020 I drove to have the same setup as the 2023 since they were both TRD OR w/o tech package

    thanks y'all!

I believe the tech package had to do with the radio and sunroof, while the automatic HVAC had to do with heated seats and mirrors.

I insisted on having factory heated seats, so I have the automatic HVAC in my truck, but no sunroof or premium stereo.

Yes, it still irritates me the way they seemingly randomly group options together...
