Before you continue to look stupid take a peek online and see what is involved in removing cams out of a 3.5.... Your key board mechanic skills are lacking.

    miles are miles... ?

yeah, a truck with 80k on it that was driven by your paw paw to church is going to be the exact same as a truck with 80k that spent its entire life towing

you have no idea how the truck was driven.... Stop with the speculating... usually higher miles quickly indicates a lot of highway, which is a good thing.

Hop off the speculation train. You clearly are not a mechanic.

Yeah, but it largely depends how those miles were driven. What rpm average was the truck driven at?

A lawyer???? When it hasn't even been diagnosed? You'd think the dealership had told the guy to take a long drive off a short pier and demanded a $1000 for doing it. Geezzzzz... let the service department have a look at it, give the OP a synopsis, and go from there. If it is valve-stem seals (which seems unlikekly to me, but possible of course), it's not a hard job; it's a few hours, yes, but not difficult.

    Business much? Apparently not.

The attorney is not there to open a lawsuit on them but to remind the selling dealer its in their best interest to solve this issue & not to leave you out to dry. The OP should not be financially on the hook for power train issues (diagnostic or repair) immediately after driving off the lot.

Back when I did it we used those but I'm sure a tool tool was available then too. That's just what we used at that shop.

I like the people talking about high mileage oils and stuff. This isn't Uncle Mike's 1989 GMC pickup he gave you for free it's a newer Tacoma OP probably paid through the nose to get lol. If it is smoking on startup it shouldn't be!

    Geez lol
Let the OP find out what’s wrong first a go from there. Valve seals are very possible but not the end of the world . Like someone said if it is that fix it and move on. If it turns out the oil use is very small it doesn’t have to be done tomorrow. It’s not a major thing

I've done engine rebuilds, top end rebuilds, pulling heads, pulling engines and transmissions. This isn't the thread but yeah I'm not a keyboard anything bro lmao.

But I am curious to see what OP finds.

Explain to me what power an attorney is going to have? Do you think it really scares any business with the threat of calling a lawyer? Having been on the business side for years (and actually being married to a lawyer) I can tell you that I laugh anytime someone threatens with calling "their attorney". My typical response is usually "ok, then you and I no longer need to talk. Please provide your attorney's information and I will communicate directly through them". Not once have I heard from an attorney.

I think we all are. I'm thinking the previous owner sold the truck for that reason. Seems anytime you buy used from an unknown party, your buying their problem.
