Same experience - except being married to one.

From a business perspective - you want to bring the attorney to it - that's the only way we're going to talk from that point forward. Too much risk for me NOT to do it that way then.

Lawyers make money - everyone else loses.

I had the same pcv valve in my tundra for 19 years and never had an issue that it needed replacing. I think you have a better chance for bad valve seals.

What happened to black smoke at startup = valve seals, Blue smoke when running = worn rings saying ?

    Think of it this way
If it is the valve seals they can be replaced for less money or the same asa good set of tires.
It doesn’t mean the truck is junk.

I've never heard this. Black smoke is usually from running rich, blue from oil and white from water.

Exactly. What these people don't realize that suggest every time you have a business dispute is to get a lawyer, is that lawyers cost money. They don't work for free. They are not the better business bureau (which incidentally has no power either). Unless it is a personal injury case, they won't take your case on a contingency which even if they did, they are taking their cut which after their 30% plus fees, you are getting about $8 out of ever $10 they recover. That doesn't even consider the fact that all businesses already have lawyers that are pretty good at what they do so your chances of getting anywhere is a pretty expensive proposition. The lawyer up idea has to be one of the dumbest reoccurring suggestions on the internet.

Only my own business for >15 years so yes? No? :notsure: Deal like a respectable person much? Apparently not!

If the issue proves to be a warranty-able issue and the dealership refuses to fix it, sure, maybe you need to get a lawyer (after you've escalated as high as you can go), but to lead with that? What kind of service do you think that's going to get you? The mechanic's equivalent of pissing off a waiter. Give people the chance to resolve the issue; mistakes and issues are going to happen, and it's not that they happen, it's how their dealt with that marks a good or bad business.

OP - little tip. If you're asking for help from your dealer - don't ask and say "I'd like some warranty coverage on this, I just bought it" - it's over 80k miles.

Ask specifically - "Can I get some policy help with this?" - To a dealer, policy repairs are a different animal. It means different things. Policy or Goodwill repairs was something we did a lot when I ran a shop. Means I helped you out without stating "I fixed something I was REQUIRED to fix".

Sounds like the people you have encountered have not had the resources to made good on their threat. Lucky you.

Besides, Who ever said threaten to call an attorney? You can read correct? I said have an attorney call the dealer...not threaten to do so. They will discuss options moving forward about how the dealer will make it right for the customer.

attorneys do not have emotional baggage.

if there is no warranty an attorney isnt going to do anything. hope this helps.

"hey this mean guy called us and said he was going to sue us for no reason!"

you remind me of the 1999 oldsmobile owners i used to have to deal with. "my car is in MINT CONDITION AND IT IS A COLLECTIBLE!!! IT IS WORTH $25K!! YOU'LL HEAR FROM MY LAWYER!!!"

    :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

For a second there, I forgot I was on a toyota forum.
First off, the guy if out of warranty. Secondly, he bought from a non Toyota dealer but is taking to a Toyota dealer for service. They are going to fix this issue for free?

You've been in business for >15 years and suggest letting it play out first? Thats is what is in the OPs best interest??

Toyota isn't going to do anything unfortunately. They wont even cover blown motors at 61k.

The dealer that sold the truck would be the people to talk too as they are required to give a warranty period on every sale. Timeframe is different from state to state. If OP is past the time frame there really is zero him or an attorney can do.
