Long story short, I'm building a truck for MY needs. I don't want excessive weight added to the truck. I'm not criticizing what you may want to do on your trucks....but that may or may NOT be in line with my end goals. If the plate bumpers would work with current TRD skid, it would remain. Only reason I'm shopping skids is because current skid will NOT work.

I've "cut down my driving" to get below 40k a year. MAJOR FACTOR in the "plan"

TRD skid extends farther forward than the regular skid. Creates a big gap between plate bumper and skid..

Says so on Pelphry site also....

    This!

Got my truck just over a year ago and have nearly doubled the miles on the clock. It's my one and only daily and I drive it!

Had I not been dealing with kidney cancer for the last 18 months, this would have been done a long time ago. Paying doctor bills prohibited completing my plans until now. Money was not available until just recently. Now I'm trying to get caught up. Several options are just NOT in the realm of possibility because of availability/delivery within an acceptable time frame. Some are not accepptable within the parameters of what I'm trying to do. This is Not about what is within someone elses plans....I want bolt on sliders.....before Harlan. I want aluminum bumpers and skids...preferably by Harlan. There is a reason why I have to use bolt ons. I have a very short list of aluminum bumpers that I like the looks of. Even shorter list that can be had without several months wait. Fortunately, the 2 I like the most have a relatively short lead time.

I appreciate the suggestions, but I have put a lot of thought into this. Not my first truck either....Ii sorta know where I'm going with this

Some of us build a dedicated off road vehicle that we drive to work through the week.

Others put together a daily driver that's capable of going off road.

    Priorities.

I'm attempting to keep my 18 mpg....keep reasonable highway performance, and still be able to make it through the trails I like.

I'm NOT building a rock crawler.

This is why there are dozens of manufacturers, multiple options as far as add on accessories... Not ALL of us are trying to do the exact same thing.

Again, I really appreciate the suggestions, but I'd suggest you all watch and see what I put together and then pass judgement. You might find that I'm not so crazy after all.

    Oh, we're all crazy!

The majority of us take our daily drivers off road and scratch the shit out of them on trees, scrape on rocks, and blast through mud holes!

And with a plate bumper, you have a sizable gap below the bumper that is left exposed.

I want skids that are same brand as the bumper I go with.

I'm not a huge fan of deep water....ie "mud". Had mu share of that. Much prefer mountain roads....hills and such.

I also tend to look for the easy way around things rather than the ultimate challenge sort of thing.

Got enough broken parts piled behind the garage.

I too look for the easier way around. Until I get bigger tires and carry enough spare parts, I'll continue that.

I drove the truck to the trails from home, I aim to reverse that every time I go out.

i like a bit of a challenge, and i don't mind mud, unless it's in my fucking radiator. But i too can't afford to break shit, plus, most of the time it's a several hour ride home.
