If I understand all your previous posts about the job accurately... don't fire him. This seems like a good situation to make your stand. You may be at risk of insubordination if you refuse, which may also be a terminable offense, but wow....

We have a written policy regarding departmental employees. ALL matters are supposed to be directed through individual department managers. As it is now, Asshat himself is this guys direct supervisor. The employee in question is very popular with the members. Asshat knows there will be backlash. He's trying to avoid that being directed at him. I just sent an email letting him know I refuse to "purposely violate club HR policy" by firing an employee NOT in my charge. We'll see how this goes....

Asshat can either do it himself, or, let HR Director handle it. I'm not playing his game.

You need to CC the proper members and other employees. It's not wrong to do that.
Makes things progress in the right direction must faster.

We had our plasma table controller die randomly after a power outage. Lincoln wouldn't warranty the replacement for 3 weeks time. After patience ran out, I called the local sales rep who had recently bumped to regional sales manager. I CC'd him on an email, and guess what?

We had a new warrantied control box in a week and bought a second "just in case" for $500 under cost.

On employee asshat wanted fired: He was retiring soon anyway. So, I sat down with him and did some math. We counted backwards from his retirement date. Gave him all his vacation days due. Also had personal days. The a 2 week notice. That gave us a last day at work of October 16th. He will not miss one day's pay. Asshat wasn't happy. He wanted to inflict pain on someone.

    Win for good vs evil.

No....he gets paid until Oct 16th....then collects a check for 11 days vacation and and his paycheck until then. He also starts eligibility for SS on Oct 17th. He was leaving Oct 17th anyway. Asshat wanted him out TODAY.

I was making sure he didn't lose any days AND got his vacation too. Bu doing this, he also gets his Christmas bonus mid December. (Has enough days to be eligible) That's another $1800.

Just interviewed a potential employee. Sorta think he might not be "the one". I felt like offering some free advice. "Doood...Try smoking the big joint AFTER the interview."

    Or bring enough for everyone.
