Hey all. About to install a BlueSea fuse panel in my truck and I want to wire something to it that only gets power when the ignition is on. Is there an easy way to accomplish that?

More details: I had heated seats installed in my truck a while back when I had my cloth interior replaced with leather. The installer tapped power off of the ignition 12v wire which made my truck go haywire when both heated seats were on. I have since unwired the heaters, but now that I am putting in a dedicated fuse panel to run some other components, I want to wire the seats to that panel but only have power available when the ignition is on to avoid a heater being left on and draining the battery.

    Thanks in advance!

You can just put a relay between the fuse box and the seat heater, then wire that relay to a 12v switched source. The 12v switched source with turn on the relay, and that in turn will connect the seat heater to the fuse box.

Thanks. Super helpful. Any special kind of relay that I need to look for?

Just your standard 12v automotive relay will work.

A standard 4-prong relay with a dash switch will work.
Wire a power source TO your dash switch from any source that is only hot when the ignition is on. The cigarette lighter or a fuse tap are common solutions for this.
Prong 85 - Power FROM your dash switch.
    Prong 86 - Ground.
Prong 30 - Power FROM your Blue Sea fuse block.
    Prong 87 - Power TO your accessory item....seat heater.....lights......whatever.

OP, have you looked at the cab fuse panel? There should already be a relay and a dedicated fuse to the seat(s) heater circuit.

No, had no idea, thanks for pointing that out. Assumed that the company that did the install would have tapped off that if available but they used the ignition wire. I will take a look and see if I can find it. That would be amazing.

You would still require a timer for each seat.
