Bluetooth and phone GPS question

So when my phone is hooked up to Bluetooth and I'm using google maps, I can only hear the directions if my Tacoma's audio is switch to Bluetooth. If I'm listening to XM or FM radio, I get no directions through my speakers or from my phone. If I switch over to pandora on my phone and Bluetooth audio on my Tacoma, my google maps will interrupt my pandora and give the turn here directions...
Am I doing something wrong?

If you are I would like an answer too. Mine works exactly as you describe. A phone call will override any mode, but not maps.

 

If you’re using Entune. No you’re not doing anything wrong. They are two different sources. Antenna radios sources play off the deck and have nothing to do with the phone so Bluetooth audio playback from an app is not available in these modes. Pandora can use Bluetooth playback and google maps just piggybacks on the active Bluetooth connection. Some other apps will also.
A call will overide playback in any mode.
Yes, Entune was not very well thought out and sucks with mobile integration. You can check your stock portfolio though....

I dock the phone next the cup holder and ran a usb cable under the center console to the dash. This way I get full fidelity audio from the device which is worlds better than Bluetooth but the drawback is playback defaults to my music library on the phone no matter what I do. A simple but press fixes this but it’s horribly annoying.

 

This is normal. When you're connected using bluetooth, all audio will be routed thru that bluetooth connection. The head unit is not connected to maps via bluetooth, it's connected to your phone as an audio player thru bluetooth. The reason it's working when you use Pandora on your phone is because you are listening to your phone via bluetooth and maps interrupts because it is also playing audio on your phone. The only solution is to listen to all your music on your phone while using maps.

 

I am disappoint....but thanks for the replies. After my 3 month xm expires anyways I'll mostly be listening to audio through my phone anyways so I guess I will manage.

I've had the same problem on other Toyota rental cars. Phone based GPS directions won't play through audio when listening to FM radio.
