2012 Tacoma 4x4 V6

I have a 2012 taco and the basic model with upgraded radio. Up until recently, when I played music from my phone it worked perfectly fine. Now, when i play my music, it sounds like you are fast forwarding a cassette tape. (Best way to describe the sound). I do have a new phone, Samsung Galaxy Prime. Is it not compatible or, is my radio / system going bad?
