Installing a double din Pioneer headunit I got from Crutchfield yesterday. Everything is pretty much wired up, except I can't figure out where to put and run the wire for the microphone. I was talking to Chris over at Crutchfield and he suggested running it to the A pillar, however I don't want to damage the rubber on side of it where it somewhat meets with the door. If I can go that route, how would I do it safely? Or does anyone have a better suggestion? Thanks!

I mounted my microphone just above the parking brake handle. I wasn't sure how well it would work in that location but it works good and very easy to run the wire.

People can hear you clearly in that location?

Yeah, I made a couple calls after install to test it and I was told that I sounded clear. My head unit is a pioneer also and it picks up good.

I'm going to have to try that out. This is my first time doing this type of thing so I'm learning along the way. Right now I'm taking a break and have to connect a wire to the parking brake wire and then tie the wires together to make it neat and then test everything out before I put it all back together. Tedious process lol

Where exactly did you put it? The clip on the mic is too loose to hold on right below where the parking brake is

Crutchfield installer is correct - you can go up the A pillar and across to rear view mirror. Mine is mounted just behind, or under?, the rear view mirror. My truck's not here right now or I would take a peak. IIRC you take off the "Oh shnit" handle (screws or bolts) and the A pillar cover just snaps off from there. Like everything else inside it comes apart pretty easy.

Mic works fine. Quality of mic varies with your choice of radio and is hard to know how a given location will work until you get going with the requisite road noise to trial it.

Mine is on top of the gauge cluster, like inside, but not inside with the gauges, works out well imo

Do any of you guys have issues where it will echo for the person you are talking to? I tested it out when I finished hooking everything up, and I got an echo on the phone of the person I was talking to. They said they could hear themselves. Also, on my end, it doesn't sound like all speakers are working, only my driver's side(which is blown) and even then it sounds low, even though the volume is up. The audio through bluetooth works fine, just the phone. Also, won't let me dial on the screen for numbers.

zero problems with mine on either side of the call. I even asked the first few people I called if it sounded okay and they said it sounded like I was just using the phone normally. (not BT)

The caller on the other end of my call will sometimes hear themselves. Which makes sense since the mic is picking up the audio coming out of the speakers.

They say it's not that bad if I turn the volume down. They say I sound crystal clear.

I ran my mic up behind the driver's side A pillar and clipped it to the driver's side visor.

    Works great.

Based on where the mic is in another vehicle I have, I'd mount the mic near the base of the rearview mirror

I put mine in the corner of the instrument cluster next to the fuel gauge, clipped the mount around the bezel and aimed the mic directly at me thru the steering wheel.

You should have settings for gain, echo and noise reduction, sometimes only accessible during a call. My Kenwood had it and once tweaked thru several calls, never any issues.

I installed mine almost identically to Madjik_Man. Routing the wire behind the A-pillar was a relatively simple matter and did not damage anything. My mic is actually clipped to the top of the pillar, rather than the visor.

Like Darryle's, my Kenwood head-unit permitted tweaking gain, echo, and noise reduction to optimize in-call performance.

I'll have to play with it this weekend when I have some free time. How does the A pillar come apart? Do you just pop it out? Or are there screws somewhere?
