    Hi,

I got my 2016 Tacoma OR for about 2 months. I absolutely love it.

However the bluetooth phone stopped working a month ago. The phone can pair and connect to the truck. Playing music is fine. When making/receiving calls, there is no sound coming out of the truck's speaker. While both parties can confirm the call is connected, none of us can hear anything. It happens to both iPhone 6 Plus with iOS 9.2 and various Android phones.

I brought the truck back to the dealer service department. They told me Toyota is aware of the issue and working on a software fix.

However I've searched the forum and haven't been able to find any reference to the problem. I am wondering if anyone has experienced the same issue and know how to deal with it.

    Thanks,

    Bill

Not on the truck, but I'm having my own issues with Bluetooth and the iPhone 6 w/ 9.2 with my hearing aid. It's been 3 months that I've been trying to troubleshoot. Just recently, talked with 2 different people (Apple Genious bar, and Tech on phone) and they're all scratchin their heads.

Have you tried using someone else's phone?? I'd suggest 'forgetting' your device and try using someone else's phone. If you can find someone with an older version or older phone that you can run some tests.

Find someone else with 3rd Gen and same phone/etc and compare your 'settings' to make sure you have all settings properly set.

Check your 'General' / 'Accessibility' / 'Call Audio Routing' setting. I'm not schooled on cars with Bluetooth (my 2007 doesn't have it) but you could try and play with these settings and see what happens. My husbands is on Automatic.

I am good on a iPhone 6 9.2 with no problems. As suggested disconnect your phone and in the iPhone select forget this device. Let it pair up again. Then ensure you have the correct source selected when you make the call. I know you can switch between sync and iPhone.

I should add, the one bug I have like everyone else is to do with the quick 4 dial contacts. Don't add any when you pair up your phone again. That's a known issue.

Thank you all for replying on this thread.

I have tried "forget the device" and pair the phone again, I have also tried in iPhone settings|general|accessibility|call audio routing. None of them helped. I have also tried to pair up with different android phones. Same problem.

From the replies, it works properly for most people. I am suspecting it's a defect for my truck. But why the dealer says it's a known issue, for which Toyota is working on a software fix.

I don't know if it's the same "known issue" we are talking about. I haven't seen anyone here post it absolutely not working but more or less the same problems.

Ask you dealer if they have another 16 to try your phone on it / pair it up if possible. If it doesn't work I would look at your phone, not the truck unit.

While my bluetooth phone seems to work like it should, if I'm listening to music over bluetooth with it, the music screen will flicker every now and then. It flickers to the bluetooth logo and back to the music very quickly. You can barely see what image it flickers too, but you notice it when it changes. It's only over bluetooth and not CD, AUX, or radio. Running an iphone 6s here as well. It doesn't matter if I have the music screen selected where it displays over the entire screen, or if I'm at the home screen wiht the nav to the right and the music to the top left. That one little section will flicker.

Have you tried going into your settings on the stereo and adjusting both the send volume and receive volume? Mine were reset to zero once for no reason and after I adjusted it back it has worked fine since.

Yes, I have tried to adjust volume, which wasn't reset to 0. I have also tried to reset my iPhone to factory setting by going to Setting|General|Reset|Reset All Settings. None of them helped.

Have feeling it's hardware issue instead of software.

Has anyone encountered the issue where while bluetooth streaming music, you plug your phone into the USB port to charge it, and it cuts off the music? I can see on the head unit's display that the music has been paused, so then I press play on my phone, can see the track time continuing (on my phone), and the word "paused" disappears from the head unit's display. But no sound will come through the speakers. BUT - if I unplug the phone from the USB charging cable, and press play again, voila - the music comes back! This is driving me crazy. It's useless to not be able to charge your phone and play music via bluetooth at the same time!!:annoyed:

The problem repeats itself each time I plug the phone back into the USB cable...

I have found that un original Apple cords ( especially longer) , don't have the transfer power. Even if they coiled around and not straight. My observation.

Hey Bill. This is exactly what is happening to my 2019. Music plays fine but calls are not coming out of speakers and I must turn the volume all the way up to hear very faint sound. Also the "beep" mode is on and no beep sounds when pressing buttons. At the dealer now. They said I might get charged $140 diagnostic fee if it's not a factory problem but I'm sure it is. How did you fix yours?

I am having a similar problem with my 2012 TRD. The phone audio only comes out the small driver’s door speaker. Same for audio from setup commands. BT audio works fine. Did you find a solution?

I took it in to toyota and they diagnosed the radio as defective but the new one they installed did the same thing. I didn't want to deal with it again so I bought a new alpine ilx-407 deck. Way better sound and works perfectly now. Just sucks you gotta buy all the back up camera and steering control and handbrake bypass harnesses. The entune worked fine before but after 6 months started acting up.

Hi, everyone. I have a 2012 TRD and am experiencing the same issue as tacomike99. I have the generic non-JBL no video screen HU. My issue is the following... When using my phone to make a call, I can only hear the audio from the phone call through the left tweeter. It's the same issue regardless of making/taking a call. However, BT audio streaming works just fine for Pandora, Youtube, Etc. This odd behavior began about 6 months ago. Before that, all of my phone calls would come through all of the speakers, and it sounded great. Then, all of a sudden, there was a bit of static and that was that, the phone call audio now just came through that one little speaker, and it sounds tinnie and of poor quality. I've taken the radio out and unplugged everything, disconnected the battery, reset my phone, reset the BT, and phone BT. Honestly, I can't stand it. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I just want my truck back to how I loved it.

    Thanks!
