Hey guys. I've never had a problem syncing phones to my truck, until now. I've had so many people sync theirs up I've had to erase some to make room for the 5 slots max. My iPhone 5S died so I had to get my 4S reactivated. It has all my music on it; and I'm trying to sync it, mostly for phone calls. The phone keeps saying "Failed to connect. Make sure it is on and in range." Any ideas here? Thanks.

Dumb question, but have you tried erasing that phone from your device list on the head unit, turning Bluetooth off on both devices, turning it back on, and then re-attempting to sync the 4S? My 4S works fine on my 2013 with the standard touch screen head unit.

Not a dumb question, I should have stated in my post, sorry. I've erased every phone in the list; no dice. Maybe I should restart my phone itself? I know it doesn't have the newest OS purposely, but it has worked on this version of the OS before. Hmm.

What OS do you have? I have my 4S in the center console, I can charge it tomorrow and check back if you haven't had any luck.

I don't really want to update it because of bugs, and mostly because of two reasons.
    1) They made it so the phone doesn't recognize any non-Apple usb cable for charging, rendering it useless to charge in my truck or any laptop.
    2) They disallow any non-iTunes downloaded music on the phones.

Had these two things happen on my 5S after doing updates.

How do I unpair and remove it from the phone? Like hit "Forget this device" on Car Multimedia?

Also, do you have a new BT device that is connecting to the phone first. I use a BT headset when Im working around the house so I have my hands free. If the headset is connected the truck wont connect.

I had that happen once as well. Delete your phone from the truck. Delete your truck from your phone. Reboot both. Reconnect. Should solve your problem.

No other BT devices have been synced to this phone from my knowledge. I will try hitting "forget this device" as long as it will pick it back up again :p
Also, when the phone is searching for BT devices, it says Car Multimedia which is usually what I do, but there's another one called nuvi(bunch of numbers)

Is Apple really that greedy? I'm not sure I can stick with them. So that didn't work. I plugged my phone into my laptop. iTunes opens, says there's an update yada yada, I click no. It says "Device not recognized." and doesn't let you even click anywhere in iTunes without downloading the new update. Making my cords and music useless. This is probably why it won't sync either.

Apple is kind of a soulless company. I left for that reason to Galaxy S4 after my 4S stopped functioning for the most part (HD capacity was full). Had that for a year and it was glitchy and just not holding up well, so I gave up and went back to an iPhone 6 with 128GB to alleviate storage issues.

I still have my 3G and it functions. Every iPhone I've ever bought still works. Anyway..

Forgetting device from phone then re-syncing worked. No OS update needed. Thanks everyone.

You are spot-on!!! Just had same problem with my gen 3. When a got the truck the iPhone was plug & play. No issues Bluetooth works fine. Fast forward six months and I disconnected it from the truck to do some customization. After the customization I’ve tried to reconnect the Bluetooth iPhone and no go. So a little bit of troubleshooting I tested my work iPhone and after I removed it from the truck it would not reconnect

Took your advice in this thread and removed the device (truck) from my iPhone and then reconnected and it worked just fine.

Seems like the iPhones get an inferior complex when the truck removes them from the Bluetooth network. They don’t reconnect too bad friends you have to erase their (phone’s) memory to connect back up to your friendly truck

Can’t believe how many hours I work on this. Again this thread was the light
